Went to buy oil filter for my Craftsman mower (Husky) with 19.5 Briggs, and at Wal Mart was over $11. Anything else fit? Thank You Aaron

Look it up on eBay or go to your local parts house they will have a cheaper filter. Look for free shipping on eBay to save $$$
Several on there for around six bucks

There are many filters that cross reference to the Briggs filters. Just make sure to check the pressure relief valve spec to make sure it matches. If you have clearance you can basically use any one of them, but you might have to add more oil to compensate for a longer filter. The larger volume of oil will probably keep engine temperatures down a tad and be good for the engine, plus there is much more filter media, you'd have higher capacity, in all honesty they're probably better filters than the Briggs ones and cheaper too.

I use long versions of the filters in my Craftsman YTS4000 (Briggs 24HP) and Troy Built Horse (Kohler 22HP). I use sythetic media Fram gold ones in the Craftsman and they're less than half the cost of the Briggs filter (I run synthetic in this tractor now). I use Puralators on the Kohler and they're a third of the cost. Newer Craftsmans have reseigned hoods that will probably hit the very longest filters, might have to use something like an FL400s.

Aaron,

Here's a few. :) 3/4"x16TPI is one of the most common filter types out there. No need to pay $11 for one. For a typical 50 hours of service, any cheap automotive filter will be overkill. No need to buy fancy stuff.

As man114 pointed out, when cross-referrencing, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure it fits in the space provided. I would purchase one in a flip top cardboard box that is easy to return if the thread doesn't match or the can is too wide or long for your mower.

"Briggs type" filter: 3/4" X 16 threads 8-11 PSI Bypass
Gasket 2.734"OD 2.430"ID 0.226" thick
