When you search, change "search options" from "entire phrase" to "And." Also, it seems that the threads that I found on tachs for BX's end with Trescrows' sentiment - most learn to get along without one.

DAN; don't care how hard the ground is frozen. if u have your bucket at th right angle , u will take out some divots/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif. just do what i do, as snoon as the snow melts, pick them up and set them back in place, and let the spring rains meld them back to solid ground. tachs are useful, not necessary, just go by the sound of the engine.

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I just made up a little throttle indicator needle for the new BX. I agree that I should be able to handle RPMs during break in by throttle lever positon and by the sound of the engine but I am not so sure that my wife and son can. To put my mind at ease I just took a 3/8 bore, set collar(kind that is 2 halves bolted together) and welded a short pointer on it. The assembly clamps onto on the throttle lever shaft where it comes out of the dashboard. Took all of 15 minutes to make. Tonight I am going hold a hand held tach against the end of the rear PTO shaft and measure RPM's at different throttle lever settings. According to the manual 540 RPM translates to 3068 engine RPM. I'll then paint a few small marks on the dash showing the safe operating range for my wife and son to follow. Sounds complicated but its really pretty simple and easy to do. (It would have to be simple for me to come up with it /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.....)

Wow, I didn't think there was all that much difference between the BX ant the B7500 powerplant. My tach shows a PTO rpm of 540 when the engine is running 2600 rpm.

Yeah Jeff, I noticed that too when I was checking out the spec sheets on the different size tractors. Whats the RPM on your tractor at wide open throttle (WOT)?

I don't know, I've never had it up to full throttle yet as I am still under 20 hours. The tach goes to 3200 rpm.

Jeff, I guess one way to get more hp out of a small engine is to boost the rpm.

My B2710 is rated at 27hp at 2600 rpm, and the 540 PTO speed is 2584 rpm.

The BX22 (I think the BX2200 is the same, but don't know for sure) is rated at 22hp at 3200 rpm and the 540 PTO speed is 3068 rpm.

And while I like tachometers, and use the PTO speed for PTO powered implements, it really isn't a big deal; you ain't gonna hurt it if you run it wide open.

I'm working on it. You gotta remember, your trying to change 23 years of high rpm phobia. When I was younger and bought all my Rice Burners from Toyota, I had a real hard time with the high rpm little 4 bangers out then. I think I had a 1.6 liter that ran to 7500 rpm.....yikes! I was never so happy as when I finally made the switch to American, much lower rpm vehicles. And then I got the diesel F350 and I was in low rpm heaven. Of course, even my Vette goes 4000 rpm at about 70 mph. Fortunately, not too many highway trips in that baby.....I'd be deaf in short order/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
