Branson 4720i
2004 4720i nonhydro. PTO stopped while mowing. No metal sounds, just stopped. I have read through the pretty good PTO threads and have fuse, switch, coil as my trouble shooting path. I have had zero electric issues with the tractor since I bought it new. I looked at the fuse bank today as part of my PTO fix and none of the fuse sizes match the fuse cover sizes. I have never replaced a fuse so these fuse sizes were factory/dealer installed. I did not find a blown fuse, damn, but feel tempted to thoroughly clean and replace all 10 with the corresponding size noted on the cover. Any known reason why factory/dealer would have 'missized' the fuses? Does anyone have a picture of the coil in place? Pressure clean tomorrow and would like to locate it while I am diagnosing the switch and wiring.

I have a Branson 4720i and I’m not sure I know how to turn the PTO on. I had a Kabota before and it was pretty easy. It was a switch on the dash my tractor has a lever below the seat and a switch on the dash for independent and T W Dr.

If I have both of those turned on the PTO light in the dash does not come on. I have checked the fuse. What else am I missing?

Not having your tractors in front of me there are a couple of points to be aware of;
I believe those have a 2 speed pto, so you should have a handle labeled with two different pto speeds and likely a neutral in the middle.
So if your speed lever gets kicked into neutral the pto will not be powered.

switch on the dash for independent and T W Dr.
Your main PTO switch should turn your PTO on or off,
your other switch allows you to select "independent" which means it can be turned on or off by the switch.
The other selection is usually an "auto" mode that will turn the pto on/off with the raising or lowering of the 3 point lift arms.

Also some of the Bransons will not turn the PTO on untill after the 3 point arms have been lifted and lowered one time, every time the tractor has been restarted.

Thank you - I see the switch for Ind/TW Dr but I do not see a main PTO switch - where would that be located?

Is your switch labeled independent/off/linked ?
That may be the only switch.
Is yours an i or an h series.

Added;
OK I just saw your picture.
That is likely to be your only switch, with your speed lever in a selected speed then turning your switch to indep the pto should run.

I can’t thank you enough. But I set the speed selector to 540 and I turned the switch on still no PTO. I also tried raising them lowering the three-point hitch no joy. The PTO light on the dash never comes on.

Do you have any suggestions for troubleshooting? Where should I look next?

To which side did you turn the switch? Turn it into Indep (independent) mode.

Yes, I tried both sides with the switch and both settings on the speed selector.

Neither seem to work at all. On the Kabota I owned when it was in PTO mode successfully the light on the dash would come on. This Branson has a dash light, but it never comes on, should it?

It should as long as the PTO is running. It could be a bad light for the PTO but since you have no PTO working, could be something else. Most likely electric. Either a bad fuse, wires, switch or relay.

I don't think it's the solenoid because it usually still turns the light on even if the solenoid is bad.
