Branson 6640 hydraulic pressure.

I'm trying to help someone with lift problems and to do that
a) I need the spec for hydraulic pressure.
b) I need to know where to measure that and what gauge fittings are needed.
c) If it is below spec I'll need to know where the relief valve is - assuming that to be the problem.

DISCLAIMER: I have NO INTENTION of "turning it up a bit to get a few hundred pounds more out of it".
I know any added capacity to be just not worth the risks, I like all safety margins to be fully in place.

Spec, just spec.


So, I have the operator's manual - useless for this issue, it just shows where everything is, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes tractordata.com will publish spec hyd pressure. On location, If I didn't know where to look a FEL QD or rear remote would be an easy to access spot. A guess of 2500# for a tractor of that size should be about right measured at PTO rpms with zero flow at the point of measurement....a static check, not dynamic which involves flow and coupling losses.

Gotta add this tidbit. Rural water supplier.....checks your pressure at your meter.....with all the faucets shut off on the down meter side....looks good to me.....er ah, how about I turn on a few faucets and you measure it again????????

I figured somewhere around that, but have searched and searched for the spec.
About the only place I have NOT tried is where I bought my own C42 Century - - and (kinda ODD) the tractor in question has their sticker on it.
I was within 5 miles of there on Saturday but running low on gas with a STRONG desire to make it to the cheapest gas station I know.

I'll phone them - starting to think that a pressure gauge mounted to a quick disconnect would be the tool of choice, then it is just a question of finding the adjustment screw and twiddling it.

I vaguely remember a thread on here complete with pictures, though that may have been for a smaller tractor, like a 35 HP Kukje.

You talking about changing the pressure? Usually pressure regulating valves are adjusted by the shims within the valve consisting of an orifice, a ball which fits into the orifice, a spring with a controlled tension to assist in setting the release pressure where the ball comes out of the orifice, and shims to change the compression of the spring to fine tune the release point. On the pump proper, it has a certain volume/pressure at any given rpm following the RPM curve especially at low rpms till pressure gets high enough to unseat the pressure regulating valve.

When I called my dealer about the hydro pressure for my loader, the dealer was going to have me turn it up because, “ the factory sets it low.” Anyway, looking under my tractor, that the valve assembly, I see what appears to be an adjuster screw with a jam nut. I would bet it will flow more fluid, but I am not sure.

In the root post I was clear that I want to CHECK the hydraulic pressure.
I have no intention of raising it beyond spec, but I *DO* want it up TO spec.
Not above, not below, just AT !
Of course I will need a gauge for this and I will almost certainly rig one up with a quick detach plug so that I can tap into the loader or an aux outlet.

Yes, I have seen pictures of the adjusting screw and jam nut arrangement - there was a thread a while ago that detailed it.
I have searched for that thread without success.
I believe that screw is an adjustment to the pressure relief valve.

Right now I am trying to get a shop manual for this tractor, just in CASE this isn't the problem - or isn't the ONLY problem.

I understand your statements. To check your pressure, get a pressure gauge that goes up to 3000 psi, mate it the proper size Pioneer hydraulic quick connect fitting and then disconnect one of your FEL connections and put this gauge in it's place. Activate the valve until the bypass valve engages and read the pressure rating on your gauge.

You can use this gauge over and over to validate your pressure.

I'm betting you're below the manual stated pressure. I know I am, and I do plan to increase my pressure to at or just below the manual stated pressure.

What are the quick-disconnects called? There seems to be different configurations, some have a beveled end and some are flat - I've got a 3520h and am very curious about what pressure my tractor is delivering and would like to rig up a gauge as well, but I need to make sure to pick up the right parts.

The flat connectors are primarily used on Skid Steers. Branson uses standard connectors. Parker Hydraulics makes the “Pioneer” feelings.

You can find them at a hydraulic shop or most farm / ranch stores. You can measure your current fitting but it is either 1/2” or 3/8”. Both are standard size.

You can buy a pair of each size and return the set that does not fit. I’d suggest you get a hydraulic hose long enough you can see it sitting on the tractor. Those hoses are also at the farm store.

Why a pair?
Can you use a status pressure measurement to detect something like a faulty connector with excess constriction? (I'd think that would require something else?)
