Brake housing drain plug delete? Jinma 284 2007

G'mornin',
I pulled the brakes and housing off the right side because they were binding because of the wishbone connections inside. Pulled the left to find it full of 80/90 from a failed seal. All cleaned up again, awaiting parts for all. Question I have is if the drain plug underneath the housing could be left out to let any seepage out over time and therefore warn me that the seal is bad before it ruins the disks. I'm not in deep mud or water ever, so that's not an issue. Thought about drilling it, but what size would work for 80/90?? It is only an M8-1.25 plug.

Dry or wet brakes ?

SHOULD be dry. 2 disks per side, fairly large cavity between inside cast housing that the disk brakes against and the differential housing that holds the seal. I assume that is for collecting seepage but you can't tell its leaking unless you check by pulling the plug and by then, its too late for the disks. I just want to leave it out and if it leaks I'll see it on the floor of the shop. This "Sealed" area reminds me of internal water pumps that when they fail, leak into the oil pan. Absolutely stupid. I'm trying to think of a reason I shouldn't leave it out, that's why I'm asking.

No reason I wouldn't leave it open. Maybe put a small cotterpin in the hole loose so it'll move around and keep dirt and dust from plugging the hole. 5/16"Ø hole so maybe a 3/16 cotterpin or slightly smaller.............Mike
