Brake controllers

We have the Prodigy controller on a Ram 2500 that we use to haul a 3-horse slant gooseneck trailer (4800lbs empty, 9-10,000 lbs fully loaded). It works great and really has no downside that I see. Highly recommended.

Wow. We are almost twins. I don't know the empty weight, but I could have typed all the rest. Wonder if I will end up with a Deere when I buy?

I tried orderin' one of the Ultimas, after waitnin' a week called back. The woman on the phone said he was makin' 'em as fast as he could. Canceled the order, bought a Prodigy, and haven't looked back.

Do you have air brakes???
I have never seen hydraulic air assist brakes with only 1/4" movement.

The brakes are operated by hydraulic pressure. The car has a complete hydraulic system that operates steering, transmission, suspension and brakes. It's a Citroen. Some Mercedes and Jaguar have a similiar system.

I tow a 16' flatbed trailer to deliver small square bales of hay. The car handles it quite well but with 243k miles and the original clutch I'm sure I'll be doing a clutch job soon.
When I need to pull really heavy stuff I borrow the neighbor's 3/4 ton pickup.

I ened up going with the prodigy. It should arrive today. I should be super easy to istall. Thanks for all the pro's and con's of each model.

on the subject of brake controllers, Dose anyone have any experience with the ford factory installed units? I just bought an 07 250 superduty with the built in controller. It looks like it should work fine but thought Id ask.

No personal experience at all, but I've heard good things and haven't heard any bad things so far. I think Ford really did have a better idea when they did that.

I have heard the new ford controllers won't work with a electric over hydraulic brake set-up other than that they get good reviews.

I haul my '06 JD3720 w/ cab, fel and Bush Hog with my '07 F-250 4x4 SuperCrew Super Duty and have had no issues at all. I have it set at 8.5 but, I live in relatively flat Florida so can't speak for any really steep grades or dips you may have to handle. My trucks GVW is 9999 and Net Weight is 6862. Can't remember what my tractor, as described above, and my trailor weighs. I also upgraded my hitch using a solid one purchased when I bought my new trailer for the tractor. I have 7150 miles on it so far, no issues. I've hauled it 2 times and both have been uneventful and that's a good thing.

I pulled my first trailer with the new ford today. 24' tag along deck over with a 4' dove tail. trailer weighs 4000#+
tractor (Ford 2910 w/ loaded tires) around 5500# and the ford factory controller worked fine. easy to set the gain, and has warning messages on your dash to show if it unhooks or has any errors, I only pulled 15 miles this morning to the office but after work I have 40 or so miles round trip to haul the tractor to my buddies house and pull up some bushes. Yeah I know I could use the new f250 to pull the bushes but then I wouldnt get to haul the tractor on the new trailer, with the new truck
