Around here the snow usually stops in mid-April (though we've had sloppy snow as late as June!), the ground thaws in early May which marks the start of mud season...which leads to bug season...and then things start greening up. It always amazes me that the mountains can get so green with such a short growing season!

PineRidge, I agree. I love the winter and snow. I figure if it has to be cold it may as well look nice with snow on the ground. I was in heaven last winter with all the snow that stayed around so long. We lookeds at the pictures from last year and the kids went back to school after Christmas break with several inches on the ground and deep drifts everywhere. This year I though the place would float away with all the rain. There are still a couple months where we may get some snow...I can only hope.

<font color="green"> These pics get my olfactories churnin. Been missin that smell of the freshly cut 3 acres of finish mowing and the 3 acres of the old hay field in front (not pictured) of the homestead. It tisn't hay anymore, but it sure smells sweet after I cut it. That's a flowering dogwood in the foreground, and that tree on the left background is a "Bee Tree" (otherwise known as Linden also known as Basswood). We have 3 or 4 wild bee colonies that head to that Linden tree. When that tree is loaded up with bees, a conversation near it is impossible due to the 2 million pairs or so of bee's wings whorling away. If I had spare moments, I'd harvest their honey. Linden honey brings a premium I've been told.
