Box Scraper Box Blade Suggestions for a John Deere 2032R

Ok so I recently sold my Kubota BX2660 and purchased a John Deere 2032R. I am expecting delivery in a couple of weeks and am super excited to get to work on it.

I have never owned a box blade as I was always able to get by with my 5' grader blade on my BX2660. However, now is the time for me to purchase a new box blade since I have sold my grader blade. There is a lot of information on this site (and on the web in general) in regard to box blades, sizes, weights, hydraulic this and mechanical that.....it has become somewhat difficult to sift through.

With that said, I have been looking at few different models, the Frontier BB2065, BB2172 and the Woods BSS65. I believe the weight on these unit is 500 to 585 lbs. I don't think the 60" models will be large enough for the John Deere 2032, but I was hoping you guys could clear this up for me.

My main uses will be maintaining a 1600' gravel drive and doing some yard leveling/prepping for planting grass seed. Thus making mowing much less of a bumpy ride.

I would prefer not to spend over $800-$900 so I was leaning away from the industrial/commercial BB's......

Any suggestions?

You get what you pay for. You really should not be thinking anything wider than 60" for a box blade for your tractor. For doing your drive, you really ought to consider a land plane grading scraper (LPGS) and still be looking in the 5 foot width area. You may have a lot of HP, but you do not have the weight to deal with anything much wider.

My suggestion would be to get one of these at 60" for your box blade, but it's out of your price range.

For your general driveway maintenance, one of these.

Unfortunately my recommendations are more than you want to spend.

Congrats on the tractor, and welcome to the John Deere family! Glad you finally saw the light.

I'm sure others here will disagree, but I have found that the Tractor Supply blade I bought 2 seasons ago has been fantastic for my "around the house" purposes. I'm not a commercial grader and just needed a blade that would help do the things you describe -- level some land, tend to some some gravel paths in our woods and other miscellaneous "blade stuff." It's not the highest quality, but it was cheap and it has worked flawlessly. Strong enough that it has stopped my tractor dead in its tracks a time or two when the tines got caught on roots and rocks, and it's none the worse for wear.

I completely re-graded the back yard (about an acre) and took out all of the rolling hills and bumps, as well as adding 4 truckloads of new top soil and dirt to raise the grade a bit in the back. I used the Tractor Supply boxblade and landscape rake both with no problems.

I figured that for the cost of a high-dollar box blade, I could get both a blade and a landscape rake, and that's what I did -- both have been good implements, and I've abused both of them (well, as much as a 2320 can abuse anything given it's only 25 HP.) Absolutely no complaints from me regarding the quality of these implements.

BTW -- I will agree that a land plane makes much shorter work of a driveway in bad shape. My uncles have one of those out on our cattle farm and we use it to repair over 2 miles of gravel roads, including the county-owned road that they seem to refuse to take care of. It works better than a box blade for that purpose, but its purpose is a little more limited around our homestead, IMHO, so I went with a box blade for the house.

Thanks for the information guys! I just go an email from my JD Dealer and he also suggested a 60" BB. He said that he would sell me the Frontier BB2060 for $935.00+tax. That's pretty steep when compared to the King Kutter (Rural King) at $549.00 or the Country Line (Tractor Supply) at $599.99. I was just wondering if the Frontier Brand was really truly a better quality BB for the extra $200-$250???

On a related note, that Dirt Dog BB looks neat. I like the idea of not getting off of the tractor (yes, I can be lazy) to lower the shanks. I wonder what a 60" would cost?

Roll over bob blades (ROBB) are great, especially because no hydraulics are required to get the rippers into the ground as well as not getting off the tractor and they are relatively heavy duty. I happen to have 3 of them, 36" for garden tractor, 65" for my 32hp tractor and an 81" for my 75hp tractor. All of mine are Gannons.

Contact a Dirt Dog dealer to find out. My guess would be $1500-$1800 though.

I have a 60" Frontier box blade on my 2032R and I think it's a good match to the tractor. I have enough power and traction to fill it up in any surface I've tried so far and it's not so big that I mind having it on the back of the tractor.

I use mine as my ballast most of the time and to pull snow out of the doorways in the winter.

When I looked at them, I based my decision alost solely on weight. There's not much to a box blade, so I wanted the heaviest I could get for the least amount of money. I ordered mine with my tractor and they gave me a healthy discount, or I'd have purchased something else.

I have a 2065 on my JD2320. It's ok but I think I would be happier with a 60" blade. I got a deal on it as part of the package when I bought the tractor and it's a nicely made, quality item. However, it is just a blade. There's no moving parts and I doubt that there is much difference from a King Kutter or a County Line.
