Some brands use gravity to hold the pln:How are the shanks supposed to be held in place on that box blade? I don't see any tabs for the locking pins that hold the shanks in place to go into.
Those are the pins.I thought there were spring clips in that style? Those things sticking out diagonally in front of the shanks?
The spring clips on mine are welded on:That is a very nice box blade! Certainly not homemade, looks like an older style Gannon or Woods. They use the spring clips to hold the shanks in. You should be able to get them from a local john deere dealer as well, it should be the same shanks and spring clips as a Frontier BB1284

I was mistaken, the photo of the part that I posted is incorrect. I didn't notice this until xfaxman posted. The style you have xfaxman is not the spring clip the op needs, it is different.The spring clips on mine are welded on:
