with a box blade, could the top link be shortened, the teeth dropped down as low as they will go, and used as a harrow on a small garden plot?

Diesel Boy:

A poster called 3RRL used his box blade extensiely as a harrow with great results on a very large area :). I have used mine like Timber. Jay

I tried something similar but my blade's teeth wouldn't go nearly low/tilted enough, even with the rippers all the way down and the link all the way short. So I think it might depend on your particular setup.

Depending upon your equipment, you might have to buy a shorter toplink. I've seen Cat 1 toplinks as short as 13" (body), I think your Kubota is 14.5"

But yes - when the geometry can be made to work, the chisel points perform an excellent (albeit narrow) harrowing job.

Not having my own plow, trying to beat some rain and particularly being lazy in not wanting to drive 5 miles to a friend's house that does have one, I decided to try "plowing" a little over an acre with my 7' box blade rippers. It did a decent job of tearing up a severely packed sandy/clay pasture that had been trampled by cattle for the past 6 or 7 years. After I plowed, I used my 7 1/2' disc harrow to till the soil even further. Now several months later I have an exceptionally nice looking food plot.

Next year I'm going to deep plow this and other fields to really prepare the soil and bring up trapped nutrients.

I'm with Heymack! I've done some pasture renovation prior to a re-seeding exactly as Heymack described. If I start with my box bade set up correctly I can use the teeth to break up the hardpack to a depth of about 2.5-3 inches. I then run my small two gang disc harrow over the same space to create a pretty nice bed ready for re-seeding.

It's no tiller, but it gets me to where I need to be with the equipment I have.
