Bouncy Bouncy! or ??

I guess this is more of an observation than a question.

Last year when I bought my B2910 I immediately got a flat front tire from glass in the area I was cleaning up, and so I decided to get my front tires foam filled.

I have used my loader a lot since then. It is the only tractor I have experience with. Using it has become second nature...you know the feeling.

This week I had the pleasure of visiting Cerberus and seeing his new L3130. Great tractor. He let me start it and play a little. That leads to this post.

When I raised the loader I was really startled by the bouncing I felt. I know the reason. My tires are foam filled and must be more solid, or at least flex less. Both of us have R4 tires. His tractor is larger naturally, but so are his tires.

It just really surprised me as to how uncomfortable I felt when that empty loader left the ground. Mine is pretty much rock solid when I lift it, full or empty. But the front tires on mine still seem to flex when I push on them with my foot...

I am sure I would get used to air-filled tires...I assume it is the foam fillilng that make the difference that I felt...I wonder if the additional stiffness of the foam adds any safety aspects...I like it I guess...

The foam filling has two liquids that are injected into the tire. They expand. Maybe they put too much in his tires.

I've only used air filled and it is very bouncy. Full speed down the road gets very bumpy! Loader bouncing and slaming on the pins. Watch a backhoe traveling on the road, they sometimes get air under the tires after bumps!

rdam . nothing to do with barley pop !( after all we weren't fishing ! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) It does have do do with a fairly heavy rear blade I'd suspect . It weighs around 550+ lb . I suspect that if I fill the fronts the bouncing might go away . I also expect it to diminish with a bit of FEL use ,as the controls are really tight ,and it's hard to use them smoothly . John

I am going to throw something in here that may be way off base but it is first hand experience and may have nothing to do with it.

We have a Bobcat trac-hoe. Any time you lifted the hoe up or lowered it that trac-hoe would bounce all over. Brand spanking new unit and no one could get that thing to move the arms or the bucket smoothly(is that what I want to say or spell). Anyway they finally replaced the hydraulic system, inlcuding pumps, valves hoses and the problem went away. To this day no one knows why, I don't care why because it solved our problem. Try raising or lowering the bucket slower or change the rabbit to a turtle if you have that control. Duh what do they call that thing?? memory block.

I don't notice that same feeling when I have my backhoe on, and it weighs a lot more than a rear blade...so I keep thinking it must be the air filled tires...but I don't know... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Murf could be right...could be a combination of quick acting hydraulics as air filled tires... as compared to what I am used to... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bill, You may have hit upon the problem ! I NEED a BACK HOE ! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Of course if that doesn't work I'll come up with something else to add to the tractor !! .

I have a 3830, and have noticed the same thing. When the engine is revved up to PTO speed, the loader hydraulics are extremely sensitive. They need a feather light touch, otherwise I'll dump or curl the bucket at warp speed. When that happens, my first reaction is to let go of the joystick, which brings the loader to a screeching halt, and transfers all momentum into the tires. Bounce. Bounce. Bounce.

Running the engine at idle gives better results, but I wish the controls weren't so hair-triggerish.

Traveling over bumpy ground at high speed (H range) will also bounce the bucket up off the stops, in this case it is probably due to me driving too fast. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Any chance it had to do with the RPM's at which you were operating? I know at higher engine RPM's my FEL and especially my backhoe tend to operate too quickly and cause some rapid, violent movements that rock the entire tractor.

6 ply R4's can probably take a lot more air. Even 5 more pounds added while doing FEL work should stop a lot of the bobble head effect.

How about loading just in the front tires?

Gary , He was at maybe 1500 rpm .
But You are right about thehigh rpm causing the Fel to move fast and shake the tractor .
Have Blue .... I'll try various air pressures to see what happens . Bill might have a good point about the foam . It adds weight to the front and also acts as a damper on tire flex . All the best , John

Henro,
Air filled tires or larger tires will be bouncier than foam filled tires. Foam filled front tires also put more stress on the front end of the tractor as they don't act as much like a shock absorber and transmit more shocks/force up into the front end, etc.

I have a 3130 HST and I've found that the loader controls are very sensative, and the loader moves FAST.

I've experienced the same bouncing if I lowered the loader too fast and then try to slow it down. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The downward momentum causes the front to bounce. I don't have filled tires.
