Bought my first hand gun!

Good buy on that SP2022, that's one heck of a good pistol, I bought one several years ago and like it so much I got one for the wife. Of course, back then, they were less than $300.
There's been a lot of good ideas for a truck gun given here, if you're looking at rimfire, the 10/22 is great, the S&W 15-22 is also great. You may look around for a used Kel-Tec SU 16 series for 223, they shoot fairly accurately, take M-16 magazines and fold up to fit under the seat.

Ruger makes a lever action .22WMR carbine that looks a lot like the 10/22; model 97 as I recall. It holds 10 rounds in a rotary magazine. They used to make a 10/22 mag, but don't any more...from what I read, there were too many feeding/jamming problems with the rather long .22 mag cartridge.

Interesting, I can't remember having a jam with my DMPS.. and I know I have put thousands of rounds thru it in 3gun competition. Hey remember when you could buy an SKS for $75? now they are more like $300 to $400..If you can find one. Back in the mid 90's, that yellow box Norinco ammo for them at less than $3 per box of 20, and was usually sold by the wooden crate. Oh well.

My DPMS was a built rifle rather then a factory build. That wasn't too uncommon back in the mid-1990's. It could digest match ammo reasonably well, but milsurp was a no-no.
My first SKS rifle was less then 90 bucks. The truck gun I wrote about is actually what was marketed as a "Paratrooper" or "Tanker" model (carbine rather then a rifle). It'll never win any beauty contests, but it's been very reliable.

The same is true around here. Fortunately, I don't need any ammo right now, but I'm frequently in several different Walmarts and haven't seen any .38 or 9 mm ammo in any of them for some time. Wednesday I did a little target practice at the Bass Pro indoor range in Grapevine and also found that they had no 9 mm ammo and only 6 boxes (50 rounds each) of .38 ammo. I've also never seen their handgun cases so bare.

That s why I go to academy you can find a box of something there almost every time you go there. bought some 357 there last week. There have been 380 and or 9mm al least every other time. Seems like it goes in waves. 2-3 types of 40 ammo, then next week its several kinds of 38 and 357, then next plenty of 9mm then 380 or some combo of any 2. They have 223 or 556. They have had independence 556 the last 3-5 times I have been in there 20rd boxes for $9 or 10 here recently. But you can only buy 1 box per caliber of these. Of course you can prolly get away with going ion the mourn and then the eve. But some one retired like you, you can bring your wife and she can buy 1 box and you 1 box so you really can get 2.

Yeah, I've bought some ammo in the past from Academy Sports, but in the past, I could usually beat their prices. But fortunately, I stocked up pretty well before the current mess, so I shouldn't need any more ammo this year.

yea you normally can beat thier prices at like walmart, but i have yet to see a caliber besides large centerfire and shotgun that i actually own at walmart. But right as all this started i started to reload so i dont really buy loaded ammo anymore other than defense stuff, just components now which is about as hard or harder in the case of the primers.

Clemson, don't give up on the reloading yet! It'll take awhile for the components to get back in stock at regular prices, then you can get into the game! The beauty of buying components (when they are available) is that you can spend $20 or so or so a week getting primers, bullets and powders. Doesn't take long before you've got enough to load up 1000 rounds and they're cheaper than factory and you haven't really missed the money because you've spread the cost out over a period of time.
To save even more money, look at casting your own bullets for handguns (and a few rifle calibers). Wheel weights, plumbers lead, etc, there is a lot of that out there that you can get just for hauling off, or maybe give just a very few dollars for, plus casting bullets is a good way to spend a rainy or cold day.

Just remember that a pound of powder has 7000 grains in it and buy your other components based on that, depending on what you're going to load, get X number of bullets and X number of primers. Work at getting a little stash built up and by this time next year, you'll be able to have enough on hand to load a crapload of ammo.

Plus, if you want to get into it, it's a lot of fun to work up a particular load that does the best in what you're planning on shooting.

oh i havent given up. I have some on hand which i have been loading and shooting what i have made over the last 2 months or so at the range.

I only have about 450 SP left and maybe 500 LP and several hundred LR (but i have no projectiles and have about 40 loaded so i should be good for a few seasons of deer before i need to worry).

Next i have to order more 44 cast bullets, i have about 40 more to load and about 100+ loaded that i still can shoot.

Congrats on your new Sig.

We own several Sig Sauers, and have been very pleased with the accuracy and dependability.

This weekend I noticed these calibers on the shelf. 17hmr, 22-250, 222, 300 win mag, Lots of 12 ga. everything else was empty, and nothing in the back room.

"That's your ammo report for Academy and Bass Pro for Easter Weekend, Springfield MO..." :confused2:

Yeah, and except for the 12 gauge, I don't own a single one of those calibers:eek: Unfortunately I have the same caliber taste's as everyone else:shocked:
