Bosch VE injection pumps KSB

Injectors have yet to be removed.

Would make sense to rule them out, especially since whatever was in tank got to the pump, and at that point it's not far to the injectors. Water could easily cause rust in the injectors and that can be fatal to their spray pattern. Before doing anything else with the pump pop test the injectors, especially since you've thoroughly vetted the pump at this point. DON'T go to a new pump until you know the exact state of the injectors!

Good advice, and I may do that yet, just having a hard time believing it would be injectors, as there's no issue when the advance has power.

Pump shops around here are shady. Your injectors could be fine and they'll tell you your injectors (or pump) has issues so they can slap a $40 seal kit in it and charge you hundreds.

Call Conestoga diesel, ask for Joel Shenk, and describe the situation to him. He may have further insight, and especially experience with your IP and their injectors. he's done work for the team Kioti following on some theoretically unfixable IPs. He knows his stuff, and should be able to help- and surely could run tests on your injectors to get them right or rebuild/replace as needed.

I've done this before. You remove the injectors and hook them back up to the injection lines. It might take a bit of creativity in moving the lines around so that you can do this. Don't worry about hooking up the return lines since there will be very little diesel coming out of them. Once you have the injectors hooked up you crank the engine over to see the spray pattern. Since you have several injectors you should be able to see if one is worse than the others. Also the tips should have very little diesel dripping out. The spray pattern should be even. Direct injection tips spray and fan out for about two feet and indirect injection nozzles go about twice that far with a lot coarser and straighter pattern.

Just make sure you stand far enough away while cranking so that there is no chance of diesel from the injectors penetrating your skin. The recommended fix for oil or diesel injected under skin is amputation so be careful.

Sure, you can see a bad injector vs. a good one, regarding conical or choked spray pattern, but that is not enough. You need to know by using a pop tester, whether the injector is opening at the proper pressure and if it is leaking at all. Individual testing is crucial, I used to do it with a Bosch pop tester rig in my shop. Some can be rebuilt, and some need replacement, depending on meeting specs.

Diesel injection pump timing and injectors being synced to the pump are crucial. It is rather simple, but extremely precise microsecond timing that makes it work as designed. Correct pressures, absolutely no dripping of injectors, it's either there or it isn't. When it isn't right it must be fixed correctly with the proper tools and skill set.

New lead.

Using a vacuum gauge found a leak in the fuel lines to the priming pump. Removed the sending unit and found a hairline crack in the sending unit.

You are on to something there. Those pumps have zero tolerance for air ingress.

Also found a small leak at the glass sediment filter, which was just a loose fitting.

Tied up a fuel can and submerged the disconnected lines in fuel. Tractor started quick. Idled until temperature came up and KSB switched off. No smoke and no putter!

Can't believe i didn't bypass the tank and try that sooner. I was so caught up in thinking it being a pump/timing issue. Should of remembered K.I.S.S., KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!
