I',m shopping for a new 2wd 30+hp tractor and thinking Kubota L-3010 or Boomer TC-33. I'll be doing lots of mowing and some light dirt work. No FEL ambitions, hills or snow here. Has anyone checked out these two as contenders? I have not driven either yet. How happy are you TC-33 owners?

One difference in these 2 is that in the TC33 you are getting the most available horse power in its frame size while the L3010 offers the least available horses on its larger frame size. Just my 2 cents, but for performance I would rather have the adequately powered somewhat smaller frame size than be underpowered on a larger frame size. I have a little over 50 hours on my TC33D with not a single problem. Although I am sure the L3010 would make a fine choice too.

That is the only thing you have to worry about./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Go drive both of them and buy the one that feels best to you and from the dealer you like best. They're both good tractors.

I drove both of them. I liked the Boomer better. It puts more horsepower in a smaller 5' wide package. I bought a TC29D.

Lane,
If you need to do pulling of heavy implements then a heavy tractor will help. But as you need to do mowing, then a light tractor is better at leaving the grass unmarked. Buy the one you like the best and feel the most comfortable operating.

Both should be able to spin the tires, so traction is the concern before "power".

Guess I'm wondering why you want such a large tractor for such light tasks..? There are a lot of smaller tractors more suited for "mowing and some light dirt work." I have an L3010 and while I rough mow my meadow with it, the sheer weight of the tractor makes it less than ideal for finish mowing. I got that model more for the mass than the power, since I routinely dig, move very large boulders, harvest maple logs for home improvement and firewood, etc. Why are you hooked on 30+HP?

Before deciding on a 25D for such chores, I rode the 2710 and the 3010. Man, that 3010 was *BIG*! It was smooth, quiet, turned on a dime, (well, maybe a quarter,) had a comfy ruggedly covered seat and oceans of legroom. Beautiful tractor. In the end, though, I watched the indents those turf tires were making in the grass where I was test driving, and I thought about the practicality of having something so *BIG* to mow the lawn and do occassional light tilling, scraping, and rare FEL work with. Plus, my beautiful bride, who also rode it, told me something else with her eyes while she said "you get the one you really want."

Anyway, I'm roughly horse-sized (6-4 and 265) and the Boomer has a great amount of legroom, a massive frame, more than enough HP, great hydraulic capacity, fits both my wife and me, and was $4500 less than a similarly configured 3010 (Kubota). That was for the "D" version. You will do better, pricewise, with the straight 33.

Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone for the input. Lots of good info here and sounds like both units are excellent. As for the 30+ HP, I live on the Gulf Coast and finish mow 6 acres. The grass grows really fast here and if not cut every 7 days max gets totally out of control. We get lots of rain too! 60+ inches per year. This means the grass does get really thick. I have a 25HP Mitsubishi Bull (21HP PTO) I bought new in 1981 and have decided to sell it /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif and get a new tractor /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I thought I should get the new one with a little more umph... I have a six foot Woods finish mower RM-660 and it really taxes the Bull when grass is tall or damp. I really need to get to dealers and drive new tractors to compare size and power to what I have now. All Kubota and NH dealers are closed on Saturdays here. I don't understand how they can afford to do that. What else are Saturdays good for if not spending money? That's my Grandson sitting on the Bull. (The key was in my pocket).

Lane -- Again, I think a smaller tractor might be better suited to your needs. My L3010 weighs a LOT more than a B2910, yet only has a couple of HP more. Less weight on your lawn, better power to weight ratio, etc. And given how much rain you get, lighter might very well be better unless you're a closet logger or drag small boulders for fun. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Might want to test drive the B2910 Kubota and the TC29 Boomer. Just my $0.02. Mind you, there's nothing wrong with preferring one tractor over the other simply because the exhaust note thrills you!
