I noticed there are several Boomer 8Ns to be auctioned in the coming weeks.
must be clearing them off the lots.

I'm still on the fence in purchasing one.

Whats the problems with the CVTs?

I keep reading posts from people that do not own a Boomer 8N about problems with the CVT, nothing specific. I have not seen a lot of posts about problems from current owners. The Boomer 8N CVT is used on other models such as the Boomer 3050 so it is not strictly an 8N "problem".

What some call a problem may be a matter of symantics. There is a learning curve with the CVT. It is different than the HST on my TC40DA. For example in low range the first 25% is used for inching, the percentage of power can be set for each of the three ranges - low, medium, and high, and reactivity is adjustable.

I am very happy with my 8N. I paid $25,000 for mine without a loader, 0% for 72 months. Cash price was $22,000. Works out to be about 6% interest, not 0%. Still better than what I could get anywhere else. I use mine for mowing so I did not want a loader, my TC has one. It is much quieter than my TC.

As far as parts being available in the future NH seems to stand behind their products. When NH acquired Ford there were concerns that parts availability would dry up. A friend needed parts for a 1969 Fordson. I called my NH dealer and the parts are still available. I am not worried about a 2009 8N not having parts available. Many are interchangable between other models with the exception of the body.

I have not had a single problem or issue with the CVT. I love it. It does not make that irritating whine that a hydro makes, and transfers all the power to the wheels.

I drove a Ford Escape with CVT transmission, and it took some getting used to. Same with the 8N, but once you get used to it, she's a workhorse.

Disregard the rumors about "problems." "I hear there are problems," they will say, but I'm a guy who has one and I have seen no problems with the tractor. As to whether it will work or not - well, it's a 50 hp tractor, and it's working for me.

Be careful of some of the dealers selling on the internet. I bought mine from such a dealer and, while I think I got a good tractor at a good price, the way they treated me was clearly indicative of the knowledge they knew they wouldn't see me again. But, as I said before, my local dealer could not match their price.

New Holland is trying to move these things, because they've become an over-priced embarrassment on the lots. Once they're priced right, and now I think they are, they are going to move like hotcakes.

Mark me down as another happy owner on a Boomer 8N. I also have heard of all the "problems" with the CVT and have experienced none of them myself. Yes, there is a learning curve I guess, but I haven't owned a Boomer (or any other compact tractor) with a hydro so it came really easy to me.
I paid too much for mine, but I purchased it in early Dec., the local dealer is a friend and a customer of mine in my business, I needed a business expense anyway and they were discounting them. If I had to do it over I would have done the same.
Bottom line is I love mine so far, the size, power and CVT are perfect for what I needed. Small enough for yard work but big enough to move snow and pull a small field sprayer.
BTW, I think they may have gotten a bad rap on the CVT because of software problems in early ones. Mine has had 2 updates since I've owned it, one before it was even delivered and one at the 50 "checkup".

GBSoren - is there a way to tell if the software updates have been done? Does it show on the data screen some way?

Thanks.

Dave

I have not seen it. The manual does not mention it. My service department checked mine when it went back to get the rear work light and weights added and said it had the latest update installed.

Sorry but I don't know, I would ask your dealer. That is one nice thing about buying local, even though I may have paid more, I know my dealer will take care of me. He also has a VERY good young service tech that really seems to know these new electronically controlled tractors.

The 8N that sold At the Barrett Jackson auction came from the New Holland Dealer 30 Miles From My Home Vause Equipment Co. I looked at that tractor when it it came out in 2009 and I thought it way to high for what it was. Needless to say it sat in their showroom from 2009 until it went to florida a couple of weeks ago.

LOL, the local NH dealer has one on the lot too, ever since they came out. Sits outside too!!

Thanks, GBSoren and REPowell. I'll get it checked at my 50 hour service. The guy I bought it from said it had all the software updates. But, he also said it would have a full tank of fuel (it was bone dry), he said the driver would stop and get it washed before he delivered it (it was covered with road salt), he said he would send me all the manuals (I got no manuals for the equipment), etc, etc.

We're in the middle of Noah's flood, so it will probably be August before I can get it into the fields without sinking to the axles.

I am loving this tractor, to be sure.
