I think they like to lift the front end of the log so it skids/ slides rather than digging in as you drag it. (haven't tried it myself)
Exactly! Keeps the butt from digging in and keeps the grit off the log. When I did this I also ran a chain from the drawbar to the log so the boom pole was lifting, but not pulling ....
