Boom Mower?

I bought one and never used it. The lever controls were still zip tied to the boom when I sold it. I had planned on doing some ditch and pond mowing. They really do not seem all that easy to use if you have an irregular surface. But I am sure it is better than nothing.

With the cost I am thinking a walk behind Gravely with dual wheels would be a better option.

Well I'm in Pa. too I would really like to watch you on a 1 to 1 slope with the Gravely, after it rolled over a couple of times or starved for oil in the engine..... a boom mower has its place.... jim

i HAD A BOOM MOWER FOR MY 1845 POWER TRAC only used it several times . It was hard to use and a lot of weight on the front of the tractor. Bottom line I did not like it, it came with my used tractor deal, sold it, not the same as the one for the 425 it had a large heavy counter weight and was a lot of hydraulic hoses to hook up and touchy controls when using.

I will let the 1 to 1 slopes just grow. I need to work 3 to 1 slopes with some next to water. I don稚 want to take the PT on it because some places are a little soft. I am also looking as adapting a sickle mower to the PT. But that can wait for now.

I can run the Ventrac on 2 to 1 but kind of wild on 1 to 1, would hav e liked to adapt a Haban sickle bar mower to the front of the Ventrac but got too old to do it so I cut it with a 20" Stihl hedge trimmer on a pole attachment.... jim

For the cost, the Steiner/Haban Sickle just wasn't long enough. When trying to cut banks and ditches, you want to stay in the safe zone. Having that tiny reach just isn't worth the bother and expense.

4' plus the offset isn't tiny.... ventac's boom mower is just too expensive and it looks like a PITA to put on. jim

According to Terry at Power Trac they used to make a sickle bar mower for some of the power trac's I don't know for what tractor.

It IS very expensive. However, it is not difficult to attach. It is the only Ventrac attachment (that I know of) which comes with jacks. This allows one to keep it perfect height for connecting.

While expensive, it is amazing at cutting very difficult areas.

I wrote numerous threads about my misadventure with the Samurai cutter.

My first question is what happens when it grabs on a rock of just the right size and it gets between the teeth, or the teeth and the frame?

Over 20,000.00 I could buy a used cut for that and get a 7' mower for less..... jim

The same thing every farmer in the US. does, fix it...... rivet a new section on the bar and replace a guard if it needs it..... jim

As for rock damage in the Samurai Sickle. You don't have to worry about that. It will have destroyed itself in fiftten minutes anyway, cutting branches that it's easily supposed to be rated for.
