That 20% chance of rain that was forecast hit here with a vengeance an hour or so ago; another frog stranglin' gully washer, just a little very small hail, pretty stout wind, lasted less than a half hour and I poured another .6" out of the gauge.:(

If the Lord didn't want us to have knee-deep grass in our yards, he wouldn't send us rain every day.

Actually, we've missed this "event" so far in Sunset...knock on wood.

Yep, Jim, I mowed this swamp Friday and it already needs it again.

This is really getting old now! Another little squall line came in from the north just before 7 p.m. with a brief downpour and I got another .35" so that's a total of .95" today.

i dumped the .5" out of my gauge last night from the past 3-4 days... and last night we had a thunderboomer roll through complete with pea sized hail.

this morning... another .5" in the gauge and a very muddy yard

There's been a little (enough for a meager first haying) up north of I-40 in Jackson Co, but Atlanta is getting almost NOTHING!!

My first cut was pretty good, better than avg at least. Unless we get rain though there won't be a 2nd cut. I really hope it starts raining again *soon*. In the summer you can usually depend on late day showers but those aren't even coming.

We are in bad shape here in N. Georgia. Just finished our wettest 3 months and are 19” below normal in our county. This Friday it will be a month since the last time I mowed our lawn. Normally this time of year I mow every five days. The farmers are selling cattle because they can’t get hay. The veggie garden is about a loss because the deer can’t find any new growth in the woods. We need a tropical storm to come up our way bad.

Got a few snowflakes and a little rain at my house last night. The snow stuck at about 5500', which is about 500' higher than my house. It didn't hardly snow (or rain for that matter) all winter, but now that I've got the tomatoes out we get some.

Which is what I just finished doing today. I mowed our yard and both of our daughters' yards Friday and they all needed it again today so I did it even though they're still really too wet.

A 2nd cut?!? What's that?

Around here folks get one cut and that's it. By July 1st everything is dry, dry, dry, and it won't get wet again for 4 months. Of course by then it's too cold to grow anything.

I suppose if we cut in mid-late May and left the stuble relatively high, we might get another cut, but you might not get decent yield for either cut.

Weird how things change. I made a trip to North Texas back last October. Crossed Lake Lavon on US 286 and the lake was 95% dried up. Towns there like Allen, Farmersville, Princeton and McKinney had water restrictions in effect. Cracks in the clay in fields and yards that weren't watered were big enough that you could break your leg if you weren't careful. I guess it's done a 180 out there by now.

When this used to happen to us in West Tennessee, the lack of rain usually meant the pre-emerge didn't take in the cotton and my Dad would have my rear out there with a hoe chopping cotton. In early summer, a little kid in a 30 acre field chopping cotton to me was cruel and unusual punishment, but my Dad vehemently disagreed.

Now creeks here in Middle Tennessee are dried or drying up and we are just coming up on what we call the "dry" season. If Mother Nature is doing a flip-flop on us, then we will probably have a pretty wet July- August- September but I doubt it.

Interestingly enough, the main springs in the low area on our land is still producing a pretty good flow albeit down about a third. All the old timers around here never remember it ever drying up completely. So the woods and the critters around the springs thrives. The grassy hills are dusty and dry.

Whether early summer, mid-summer, or late summer. I grew up loving Winter and not liking Summer, partly because of the summer heat of course, but also because it got dark earlier in the Winter, and I looked forward to night time. We could NOT go in the house and eat supper until after dark. Dad said we could work outside as long as it was light enough to see.

Its not so dry anymore...Fri night and it POURED. The rain gauge says we got 2.25 inches in the span of about 2-3 hours. Looks like theres a good chance of more rain later this week. Hope this marks the turn from ultra dry to a bit wetter.

I'm just south of nashville and we had 7 tenths friday afternoon. went out to look at a field of corn just before dark. walked out in the corn and didn't even get any mud on my shoes. still too dry, yards are all brown. doubt if anyone around here gets a second cutting of hay. 1st cut down a 3rd over normal year.it's going to take a tropical storm moving in to make any diff.

First cut here (my place) was a bit better than last yrs, 123 4x4 round bales vs 110. If we get some rain right along (even if its a little) I think there might be a 2nd. The rain last w/e really perked things right up!
