Several years ago I purchased a large amount of a variety of nuts and bolts. They are now sadly depleted and I am forced to replace my stock. The place I am retired to has limited choices and maximum prices so I am prepared to go on the Internet and find what I need. That could be a long, involved process.
Is ther anyplace in the Southwest you would recommend as to purchasing standard American bolts and nuts and get a good price?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Buying "By The Pound" seems the most economical for me. Tractor Supply used to do this. Its been a while since I have bought some.

Whistlepig is right about TSC. I just bought nuts and bolts by the pound there last weekend. 5.25 pounds of hardware for less than $8. It would have cost over $25 at Home Depot.

One thing to note when buying bolts by the pound in places like tractor supply is the hardness of the bolt. Some places that sell bolts like this are selling grade 2 bolts not the typical grade 5 or harder that are used in most equipment applications. You just have to pay attention to what you are buying because for some applications grade does not matter.

TSC has the grade 2 fasteners on sale now for $1.50 per pound (regular 2.29)...they also have grade 5 (3.49)and grade 8 (4.49) but not on sale right now.
I generally buy a few dollars worth of one or the other whenever I'm in there, just have on hand.
I really wish they hadn't discontinued the metric fasteners by the pound they used to sell...

In my experience there is no better place to buy fasteners than from McMaster-Carr. They only sell in bulk boxes.
If you have a Fastenal store near you they are good too, or use their web site.

I used to work in a large manufacturing plant and they cleaned the shop floor every night with a power sweeper. Any metal like nuts bolts and electrical connectors would get picked up by an electro magnet and when the power was turned off the picked up items would fall into a large tote pan. They would sell these pans to employees for $1.00 I bought about 10 of them and I haven't had to buy any hardware in over 20 years.

Just be careful, as several top names have resorted to importing bolts/fasteners now. Getting hard to find USA made even on simple item as this.

I can run through a lot of dough at TSC buying nuts, bolts and washers...but it's still the cheapest since there is no shipping. For the little stuff like stove bolts, pins and self-drillers...I get them at Harbor Freight in the little plastic boxes with compartments.

Estate Sales. But you'll have to ask for them.

I know, kidda gruesome. But when Father passed a few years back, his nut-n-bolt collection never made it to the sales table. Just didn't think anybody would be interested. They're still sitting in the garage.
