Bolt holes on axle housing

On the B2400, I have noticed four bolt holes on each of the rear axle housings. These bolt holes form a square pattern, surrounding the axle, when viewed from the end of the axle.

On older model tractors, NAA, 8N etc. these holes exist for the purpose of attaching chains or bars to help stabilize the 3 pt mount.

In the case of the B series, what are these used for, backhoe subframe?

Do all the B models have these bolt holes?

My 2710 has them also, as does the 2910. On mine I have used them for the Backhoe subframe mounting weldments. I like the Bush hog backhoe design because it hangs the subframe off the axle and not in the lower 3pt link pins....

They are there on my B7500 too. Not in a square pattern though; a rectangle, longer front to back than up and down. Kind of makes a guy want to find something to bolt on in there...

Uh, back to the regularly scheduled programm...
Hearing the bolt holes are used by subframes tells me they have lots of strength.

Nice to know if I ever have a use for them.
