Hi all,

I was wondering what category hitch is on a Bolens G152 tractor? I have owned this tractor for a year now and maybe I am being stupid here but it seems larger than a category zero which is I think 19 inches wide. I have a category 1 snow blade that I use on my old 9n and it is 26 inches wide and it is too wide to fit on the hitch. I measured the drawbar it is 23 inches wide. I am sort of at a loss. I was not concerned up to now of using the hitch. This winter I would like to put on a snowblade on the rear for faster snow removal when it is not real deep since the snowblower that came with the tractor is a slow process.

Thanks,
Alan

Unless it was changed by a previous owner, it is a cat 1 hitch. I have 2 of these machines, both are the cat 1. Remember these are small tractors and some cat 1 implements are simply too big for them. As I type this there is a Woods 54 inch finish mower on the rear of one tractor. I have used 48 inch brush hogs and 5 foot scraper blades also on these tractors. All cat 1.

Since I was thinking of getting a lighter scraper blade anyhow for the bolens could I use a category 0? The only reason I tried using the 9n blade was trying to figure out it would even fit which as I figured it really does not. Even if it would have the previous owner welded 1 inch thick plates on it for weight so I could have seen the little tractor standing up:eek:

I have never had anything with a cat 0 hitch. You may wish to check at a farm supply store to see if they have bushings. Since the pins are likely larger on the cat 1 they will need to be bushed for a proper fit.

I made a weight for the front of my little Bolens when using implements on the hitch, mine is about 175 lb. Makes a BIG difference!

The weight would be great idea. I think at the moment though, if all goes as planned I will be replacing the Bolens with a Ford 1200 mwfd. It sort of found me. But it has a hydraulic front mounted snowblade so I will add the weight to the back hopefully it will make a good setup and it is 4x4 unlike the bolens so hopefully that will help this winter.

Hi all,

The Cat 1 hitch adjusts for width. If that doesn't work, you may need to turn the prongs inward on the blade. In snow the blade will work until all of the sudden it won't work any more. That's when there's too much snow for the little tractor.

I made that discovery last winter with my Bolens G174 on a 7' blade when the snowblower tractor dropped a king pin.
