Greetings from Canada,

My first post, and already I'm seeking help.

The Briggs 16 hp in my Bolens won't shut off. I've disconnected every connector in sight and still have to pull both spark plug cables to kill it.

Maybe the "Off" position on the ignition switch is supposed to short the ignition circuit to ground and mine is defective?

I've Googled for a wiring diagram but no luck. Any good suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers.

It's OK. I found wiring diagram etc. on mytractorsforum.com under 1600 Hydro Eliminator 1668.

Ignition switch is supposed to short the ignition to ground. Mine doesn't, yet.

Thanks anyway!

Happy :tractor: ing!
Thank you.

Just looked at some of your posts. You must be the official greeter for TBN.

It's nice to be made welcome.

Welcome to the site.

I would try a new ignition switch first.

There is usually a ground wire to short out a magneto engine as is on many Kohlers.

On a points system, remove the 12v and you get no spark.

Electronic system, I would guess remove the supply voltage

Can you post your wiring diagram?

If your engine has magneto ign the below data is true.

M on your ign switch is your magneto ground. Maybe green wire.

Remove that wire from the switch and ground with engine running, and it should stop. If it does stop, then the ign switch is bad.
