Having a fueling problem with my 2000 bobcat 863 since late last fall.
The machine will start & run, but cold starts seem to be better if the primer bulb is pressured.Machine has 5,000hrs on it. Prior to the starting problem, engine would only smoke for a few mins. on warm up, then run clean. now it smokes all the time, seems harder on fuel, & lower on power. Here are my attempts at correcting this problem;
- replaced all filters
- cleaned screen in lift pump
- replaced lift pump
- tried remote fuel tank on top of cab with new fuel line to pump (I did this to eliminate any possibility of a bad fuel line allowing air to enter the intake fuel) this made no difference to the "smoking" problem. Will see this morning if it seems to keep it's "prime".
- have phoned Bobcat's "help center" but with no helpful answers except "bring it in & we'll have a look at it"
I'm a 6hr. trip from the dealer & my pockets are not lined with gold.
I have to add that this was an "all of a sudden" type of problem & did not seem to "progress" any further
I don't want to run the machine as much as I would like to because "over fueling" will do engine damage. Other than removing the injector pump for testing? I'm at wits end.

ANY HELP OT THERE?? & thanks in advance. :confused:

It sounds like it could be a bad injector nozzle.

Any idea how I might be able to check them myself?

Unless there is external damage to the tip, not that I know of. The fuel in the injectors is under such a high pressure that it makes screwing around with them fairly dangerous.

There is a diesel injection service shop near me that I take any questionable injectors to. The last ones they tested were $7 each. IMO it's well worth that.

Yes I know of the inherent dangers, so I may have to phone my stealer for a quote on testing. Most everything seems to cost ten fold up in The Great White North!:rolleyes:
Thanks

Ok my Dad was a heavy diesel mechanic for many years and when he did not have the test bench on hand you can remove the injectors one at a time and if the injector pipe allows it reattach it to the pipe and aim it in to a clear plastic container and crank it over a few times you will soon see if the fuel is dribbling out or in a nice even spay.

keep in mind that it will easily inject though your skin (Very Very bad) so stand well clear and remove the battery wires when setting it up.

and use clean gloves as injectors do not like rusty finger prints on them.
