Post a picture if you can, there are MANY different ways cylinders come apart. Seeing a picture will help us help you.

#6 is threaded into the cylinder body. Those 2 holes are for a spanner wrench but if it's stuck, a spanner won't help you. There may be a touch of loc-tite on the threads. Here is my suggestion. Put the base end back on the machine. Or better, use a good stable pipe vise or a way to lock it down. Heat the cylinder body by the cap with a propane torch. If you are very good with one, you could use oxy-acetylene but you don't want to over heat the cylinder body. Then take a big pipe wrench with a cheater pipe if need be and turn until it comes out. Sometimes, they are stuck, real stuck. It will come out.

Good Luck,
Andy

Thanks alot guys I had applied a little heat but was afraid I may do more damage than help. I have tried the pipe wrench but the aluminum seems very soft. I cant keep a good grip on the edge of the head....it is only about 1/2 inch wide. Maybe the heat will help. I have to ask this question also. It may be silly but is there any explosion hazard do to overpressure while heating. I have used at least a couple of my (hopefully) nine lives with explosions:D.

No, there is no explosion hazard. Pressure can not build up since the ports are open.

Only possible "puff" is if there is some hydraulic fluid left in the cylinder and the flame gets to it. Point the ports away from you while heating.

Applied a judicious amount of heat and finally got the head off. All the teflon parts into a warm water bath. Reinstalled all the parts...put it back together prayed a lot and..... No leaks as of yet thank god.

Now that I am finished with the whoopin it up......On to the next problem:confused2: Come on you knew it was coming:) The drive sheave...Variable speed pully. Dont know if I should start another post or not.
Yes I have searched on this and other sites. It would be a simple rebuild except thats not how it works for me. I can not get the pulley to close to get to the first snap ring. If I had realized this at first I would have used the grease zerk someone put in the roto swivel to compress the pulley but I didnt and now the roto swivel leaks when putting grease in it............ long story endless. I would like to know if there is a way to manually compress the sheave (pulley)
