blowing smoke

My 08 ck35 is starting a little hard and blowing out more smoke than usual at start-up. It's just at start-up and then everything is fine, while I'm working with it I shut it off do do some work and it starts up fine with no smoke, just like normal. Symptoms must point to something and I'm sure I'm at the right place to get answers. Thanks guys.

Glow plugs not working as well as they use to. Or maybe one has gone bad.

My best guess is that the glow plugs are bad. Probably just one since it still starts somewhat normal.

You can test them with a simple multi-meter. There are loads of videos and guides out there on how to check the glow plugs.

Check for power getting to the glow plugs

As Vince says, check the glow plugs. After that I'd be thinking injectors: not seating fully, dribbling fuel (residual pressure after shutting down and fuel pools up a bit); it's less an issue when starting warm because the excess fuel will ignite pretty fast.

SO many say the glow plugs but the glow plugs do not work when the engine is warm. If the OP only shuts the tractor down for a short period of time, the glow plugs will not work.
