Blower too big???

If you sell the blower and buy a rear blade with the proceeds--you'll still have cash in hand for x-mas presents ;-)

Just another point of reference.

I had a B7100D (16 HP, gear transmission. and 4x4). I also had a 50" rear-mounted blower. Since the B7100 did not have a FEL I had >200 lbs of weight attached to the front. The B7100 would handle the blower but it took was everything it had. I definitely wouldMy biggest problem was ground speed -- Reverse in Low Range was too slow (not enough snow entering the auger) and High Range was too fast (too much snow entering the auger, and piling up). I had Ag - V-bar tires and never had a traction issue but my 750' of driveway is relatively flat.

I would suggest a bigger tractor (I got a B3200 last spring) or a smaller blower.

I have a B7100 gear drive. I have a FEL on the front a a 48" blower on the back. I do wish I had a hydrostat transmission but it works fine with the gear drive. I think it would be relitivly easy to find someone who would trade your wider blower for a 48" - 52". I think your tractor with some weight on the front and a slightly narrower blower will work fine.

My gear drive Mitsubishi is rated at 19 HP (PTO would be less) and I use a 60" blower.
Yes high rev is too fast and low rev is kinda slow but OK in 10" accumulations but terrible in say. 16 and up.

You will develop tricks to use your blower.

Take half wide 'bites'.
Raise the blower perhaps 3" for the 1st pass and re do that pass followed by 'half bites' at each side.
Really small snow falls (like couple of inches) you can use H R .

Big main trick is keep up the RPM's.

Also it you have dual or 3 ranges of PRO rpm's try the middle range (mine is 650 RPM) and that is my best performing PTO speed and have used it for 6 yrs without any ill effects. Also it allows you to use less engine RPM's and still get good blowing results.

I actually blow thru the 3 ft city plow dumpings with raised blower and then take small bites for the following passes and that stuff is heavy dense snow.

Buy a set of chains and add some weight up front and you should be able to adapt easily.
And suggest chains be at every 3rd link, also turfs take chains wery well, in fact better than R4 or R1's.

PS, that is a nice blower U have, I'd trade mine for it in a flash!
(and I'm not that far north of you, (Montreal))

Not a good match of blower to tractor size. But if you added front weight and maybe lifted the blower an inch or 2 off the ground, you would have more weight on the rears too. That should get you traction. Then you could try some of the techniques the other guys mentioned about taking smaller bites, blowing downhill, blowing with it lifted for the first pass etc.

You might think about keeping the blower and upgrading the tractor to more HP and hydrostatic. If you can't swing it this year but think you might later, then try harder on the techniques to make it work this year.

Otherwise, try a back blade.

Is your tractor manual, or HST ? This will make a difference.
Since, with hydrostatic drive, your ground speed is infinite......

There must be something wrong with mine. I get only about 15 mph. :D

Moth, I've driven further to look at worse. Not sure if it will fit. Search the forums to see if anyone has done this.

Tom, I think he meant Infinite Improbability Drive. :)

I just sold a Yanmar 48" blower that would have been great for your purpose. It only weighed about 220 lbs, I don't know if you can find them anymore but they worked very well.

I just mounted the same blower on my B7300 HST. It takes all the horsepower it can muster with the 14" of heavy snow we just received in Green Bay. But I will say I'm very happy. I needed to modify the mounting brackets that came with it. It was of a B1700 I think.
