I recently installed a new engine block heater. The new heater was a different brand than the old one. My old one had served me well (over 40 years) and decided to call it quits. Although I don稚 use it that often. When I installed the new heater which was a different brand I flushed and changed the antifreeze draining the block and radiator. When I plugged it in I noticed the familiar sound like a steam iron heating up. Later I went back and the thing was making a humming/squeaking sound. Kind of like shutting the water off an outside water hose. My first thought was maybe cavitation in the block however I had drove the tractor over and hour out to a barn and return 2 times. I plugged it in again and it started that humming/squeaking immediately. It seems to heat ok or as much as I can tell by touch.

Electric water heaters make the same sound at times. The block heater on my Kubota does too but much more subtle. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Thanks mcfarmall, actually I had decided to just do what you said. Last time I plugged it in it sounded just like the old one.
You said not to lose any sleep over it reminds me of what I used to tell my kids. This advertisement has stayed on my mind for years and it’s actually saved me a lot of grief.
