block heater

Does any one know why my block heater makes noise after it warms up. I have an 1845c case skidsteer , I like to leave it pluged in all the time , but I am afraid I may be burning my block heater up. The heater seems to be working well. The noise is similiar to a brewing sound. am I boiling my block?

It is doing its job...heating the cold coolant. You can not "boil" your tractor with a block heater. The coolant modifies the boiling point to be higher than 212 degrees.

Also...I used to run a Case 70XT and Case 1895 and we left them plugged in 24/7 at the parking lots where we cleared snow. It was no problems starting.

I'm going to guess...........
Minerals in your water. Like when an older water heater does the snap crackle pop thing like thy will do sometimes. Mineral accumulation on the heating element will expand and contract.

The part about glycol changing the boiling point is correct. Glycol also changes the rate of heat transfer from the water to other materials that are in contact with the air.

Pressure in the coolant system has a lot to do with boiling point more so than many other things.

Totally normal!! I always listen when I plug in any block heater. Its confirmation for me that everything is working properly. As far as the physical reason why it makes noise.....I HAVE NO IDEA!

You are boiling water. You want it to get hot, right? The only real problem would be if the heater was exposed to air because then it would burn out in seconds.

Totally right rsewill. Elements don't last long without water to take the heat. As a young journey electrician I wired up a brand new HWT for a plumber....he never told me to ensure it was properly filled. I couldn't figure out why the **** thing wouldn't give me hot water.:confused2: Lesson learnt.....never did I forget to fill the tank after that.:laughing:

Don't worry.If it's a sizzling sounds that means it doing it's job. Satrt worrying when you don't hear that sizzling sound.
