Block heater for buddies L5450

Hey guys,
My buddy has got a 1993 L5450. I'm wondering if he has the plug in the block to swap out for the block heater or if he has to splice into the radiator hose. Also wondering if you guys know of any other options. Been cold up here in NE and he hasn't been able to start his tractor withou a jump. He is buying a new battery but I recommended a block heater. I put one in my B21 and have never looked back. Thanks for any help.

If the block has the knock out plugs [ don't know the proper name ] from the casting process there will be a block heater that will fit.

In line heaters are just as good.

I'm not sure I understand the question but his needing a jump isn't from the lack of a block heater. As you say the battery is weak and he needs a new one.

As for the heater, regardless of it being a block or hose type. The engine will start easier for him. I have the hose style and after 30 mins the antifreeze is warm. A good investment either way IMO

The L5450 has five freeze plugs on the left side of the engine - the middle one is a handy spot for a heater. There's a description here of a freeze-plug-type block heater installation in my L5450. I live in MA too. If I plug it in 2 or 3 hours beforehand the tractor starts effortlessly. Your friend's battery may be going south if his tractor starts hard. Even without using the heater the L5450 starts better than other tractors I've had.

thanks for the reply. It sounds like you have the same tractor as my buddy. I did order the block heater from Tractorsmart although the part number is slightly different from yours. It sounds like an easy install. Thanks again.
