How often do you change/sharpen you blades on a rough cut/tough cut mower? I am sure you should replace blades sooner on a finishing mower but was wondering what you do with a brush mower.

I flip mine beginning of every season.

Last time I didn't need to "sharpen" them as much as file down some dings.

I have a JD - G100 riding mower. New in 2005. Still on the OEM set of blades. Remove and sharpen every spring. I use it to cut everything up to and including brush - 1" or less. It also mows 2.5 acres of "grass". My grass is field grass that has been mowed for 38+ years now and is green and looks lawn like.

If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

Once or twice a year as needed. I put away in fall with fresh edges. They can be flipped to save sharpening and one spindle is CCW. All American sharpening jig with variable angle and CW/CCW capability allows precision sharpening with angle grinder. Finish mower gets sharpened three or four times per season.

I do mine as needed , I’d say every 5-10 hrs unless I hit something good then I’ll address it right away. The beauty of the tough cut is you get double the blade life just flip them tp the counter rotating shaft and vice Versa.
