I'm in the process of sharpening the blades and setting the blade/anvil clearance. I know it should be somewhere between "plenty, to be sure" and "as close as I dare". Anyone know for sure? Right now it's .100" plus, and left to my guessing I was going to set it at about .020". It's a self feeder, so I'm thinking the tendency for the drum is to run towards the anvil while it's pulling the stock in. Had to pull the 4 sheeve pulley off to excess the pillowblock bearing (thank goodness for taperlock hubs).

Welcome to TBN. Glad to see another new member.

It's not obvious what chipper you have and this clearance will vary depending on manufacturer and model. Either way, the clearance should be listed in your owners manual.

Thanks Cliff. Oh yeah, it's a Goossen 5" chipper/shredder. I don't have a manual yet. Guess I'm kind of chomp'n at the bit.
