The sharp side of a tooth sure workers like a blade by cutting!

Ignorance just may be a factor in the lack of summation of parts.

My 372XP pulls the chain pretty fasts once I first start it up. If I put the chain brake on you can hear it put the engine under load. After I've made a cut it'll idle without moving the chain. BTW, the correct terminology is a chain. I'm not sure why that matters anyway.

It don't.

Why isn't it called a bladesaw then?

Depends on who 'youse talkin' to.
For the fools on this thread who call a chain a blade that's what it will always be.
Ain't no use trying to convince them otherwise. It would be like barking up a log, or is it a tree they'd be barking up?

Well if it has to be chain how about a logging chain cause it does cut logs?

We'll allow it, just this once! Good point, though I doubt you'll be able to fit a logging chain on a chainsaw bar, unless it's in a local tavern after hours!

Its a chain that runs on a bar attached to the head of the saw. The chain should not move at correct idle, after warmed to operating temp and at proper mixture. You need to figure out where the saw is set at and set it up properly as to mixture and idle, as already mentioned by others.
The bar needs to be straight with no burrs in the track where the chain rides, and not gummed up or pinched either.
The clutch mechanism needs to be the correct one for your model saw, and the chain must match the bar and saw it's used on, as well as being properly tensioned, but not too tight, or loose. Too tight a chain will damage the engine bearing when the saw cools, and the chain should be loosened after being run to reduce this risk of damage. This is stated in one of the various Stihl manuals, I've owned over the years.
So, after having made all the adjustments suggested so far, if you still have a running chain at idle, your carb's functional ability to reach correct idle may be compromised by any number of issues.
Report back where you're after doing what's already been suggested, then let's see where you're at.

First of all I am happy to see that the Terminology Police squad is on active duty and doing their job. I got burned using the misnomer chainsaw blade. My bad. It will never happen again.

As far as my saw problem is concerned, I really believe that the carburetor, after many years of good service, just had enough. Actually I had some problem keeping the carburetor properly tuned before, but it got worse after the clutch replacement. As far as I can tell the new clutch looks good. I was hoping for a magic Chinese trick but I guess I have to bite the bullet and get a new carb.

Thanks for the help!

I don't care if you call a fart a poot. 17903686_1285984568116201_2406316308557669689_n.jpg Sounds like a clutch problem to me.

Yep, some folks get bored. Try running some Seafoam through the carb & see if that helps. My old 021 get's picky at times & the Seafoam generally clears it up.

My Stihl 290 is weird. With a Stihl chain it will run at idle and with an Oregon chain it won't. I like the Oregon chain better anyway, but the dealer tells me the oil groove on the Stihl chain is better for the saw. I bought leg chaps regardless of which chain I use. Can't take chances when using a blood thinner. :(
