Black stuff in coolant

My T3040 Boomer is a year old this month, and I suspect it sat around the lot for nearly a year. I drained the coolant, flushed, and refilled it. As I was bottling the old coolant for disposal, I found what looked like a bit of black sand in the drain pan. Unfortunately, I didn't stick my finger in it to see what the texture was.

Seems to me it could be either sand from the block casting process, or maybe rubber crumbles from the inside of the hoses. I'm thinking it was a tiny bit of sand that didn't get blown out of the cooling passages before machining.

I plan on asking my service manager the next time I stop by.

Any ideas here?

I think you are absolutely correct in your assumption. That's why NH recommends an annual coolant change with 50/50 permanent anti-freeze.

After the casting, the inside is cleaned and they paint it in some enamel paint. I can't imagine any sand will be left over or at least at it will be encapsulated by paint. I think inside of rubber hose might have peeled off during the installation especially if it were a tight fit.
