Mine is also clean on the stick when I do my oil changes.. With that being said.. my 404 does not have a turbo. Turbo is the quicker blacker upper in any diesel engine. All of my diesels that are non turbo just about cant change the color of the oil between oil changes. Maybe I am changing oil too often (can you really do that?) Anyway the turbo diesels will be black before the new oil makes one cycle through the motor due to the coking or sooting from the turbo.. If your engine is non turbo and you are getting very black oil quickly you have something wearing very quickly, or a large mount of blow by.. Worn cylinders, rings, stuck rings etc

Your assertion about turbochargers being the cause of black oil is completely unfounded. Soot is the leading cause of black oil, but how does turbocharging cause that? Soot is a by-product of incomplete combustion, which can be from many reasons. I ran four turbocharged 4,000 HP EMD 710G diesels for many years and the oil never turned black. The oil in four of my personal diesel engines (one 6.4 twin turbo Powerstroke) doesn't turn black. In fact, naturally aspirated diesels will have a higher tendency to lose TBN.

YMMV-- that is my personal experience.. Fortunately all of mine are in great shape.. For sure blow by is a major contributor to blackening oil
