Birds we've not seen before.

These have shown up about a week ago, very agressive at the birdfeeder, always show up in a flock of ten or so and just generally act like bullys. I think they are in the Oriole family, by the looks of their beaks and their size, but have not seen anything with these color markings, anyone know what they are?

rose breasted grosbeak, a common bird. I believe in the cardnial family.

Thanks woodlot, I looked them up and saw a lot of pics of them, didn't know what the females looked like, and was probably mistook them for sparrows.

Gary, the first pic just happened to be the best, my wife kept wanting to know what they were so I snapped the three shots through the kitchen window and told her I'd have an answer shortly and posted here. I was sure someone here would know. I wonder if they are just passing through, they've never been here before.

We had a Scarlet Tanager at our birdbath yesterday, first we've seen in the 6 years we've lived here. He was gone by the time I got to the window with the camera but hoping to see him again- beautiful bird!

The Rose Breasted Grosbeaks are passing through here now. They do not stay long and I'm always surprised to see them. Sometimes we get their close cousins, the Evening Grosbeak, passing through as well, usually in flocks.
