Birds in the Barn

Birds are not the smartest creature. They get into our garage. Nothing to do in there - no food. I leave both double doors open.

They fly around like they are scared. But, won’t go out. My son chases with a broom still won’t go out.

Finally, we bring out the big gun —- our cat. Sure enough, a few minutes later the bird discovers the open door.

Here is the big gun himself. He views himself a Tiger!

No, he is not spoiled!

Used to have a black male cat named Meower. He would sit out in the driveway acting like he wasn't paying attention to anything..... Birds would swoop down and try to run him off. I swear that cat could jump straight up 3' from a sitting position. Bingo, bird lunch.

I also am amazed at a cats ability to jump from a sitting position.

A friendly cat is a real gift.

Seems like even small shot from a small cartridge would damage the metal siding.

I have a problem with Stellar's jays nesting in the barn. Stellar's jays are obnoxious. I knock the nests down with a pole. I try to get them before there are eggs but sometimes the birds are too quiet and I don't notice them for a while. Usually it only takes once for them to get the message.

They had a bracket hanging it flat at the ceiling in the middle of the building. It looked plug-n-play to me.

I have a few bird nests in my carport stalls. I get a little bit of bird poop on the tractor. Not a big deal. If I'm really concerned I wipe any off the seat. I have lots of home made bird houses all over and in the carport.

Every so often I will see a few starlings. The red-wing black bird will drive them off before any can establish nests. My cattails are the dedicated home for the black birds.

Picked this up at Home Depot today. It has a rotating head so it moves with the wind. I've read some reviews that say they work to some extent but not 100%. It was the least expensive thing to try first.

Here is one of my Barn Cats. He was a feral my neighbor trapped and had fixed but lately he spends most of the day and night at our house. I have two or three others that roam through the barn that I haven't befriended. Had a fox in there the their night.

I have a front porch that is a favorite nesting place for swallows. It's very hard to keep up with them. I put up a frame and stretched the black plastic bird netting over it and it works well as a bird excluder. They still come in with the intent of building a nest but can't. I painted the frame the same as the house and the fiber is fine enough that visitors don't notice it.
