Hello all- I'm taking delivery of a new Mahindra 3616 TLB today, and thought it would be interesting to start a thread on the biggest jobs taken on by small tractors. So far I've read about folks digging ponds and septic systems, but I'm sure there are some more great stories out there involving little tractors doing more than they should.

With my MF GC2610, I dug out 20" diameter white pine stump.
The size of the hole was almost twice as big as the tractor itself...darn roots wouldn't let go !
Had to use the big boy's loader (MF 4608) to get the root ball out of the way, too heavy for the little GC.

Nice! I tried to get a redwood stump (24" across, root ball was about 6' around) out with a JD 110, but it wouldnt budge. A heavy duty tow truck came and pulled it out like it was nothing. The two winches on it were rated at 50,000 lbs each!

I wouldn't really consider it a big job, but I spread 100 tri axel loads of dirt with my Kubota L3240.

My little 20hp JD750 and Woods 650 backhoe have left a lot of people standing there with their mouth hanging open.

Took me a lot longer than a bigger machine would have, but I've dug footing trenches for garages and additions, dug out trees, cleared land, trenched in long water lines and other projects.

Biggest problem is getting buried in my own spoil and having to move the rig every couple of minutes, but it can be done.

Back when I was a teenager my Dad and I dug a bit over 10,000 feet of irrigation ditch 6 feet wide and 2 feet deep with a Ford 8N tractor, a middle buster plow and 3 point blade. This was for our Pecan orchard. It took 5 full weekends to complete. We would plow for a few hours, take the plow off and put the blade on for a few hours, then repeat. Now that I look back I am amazed at how much we accomplished over the years with that Ford 8N tractor. We now have much larger tractors with jobs that are much smaller. I guess we did things backwards! :) The blade we used was very light and would only move a few inches of soil at a time.

When you look at things like Stonehenge and the Pyramids, it makes you wonder if they would have thought our machines of today were too small for any task. I'd bet the smallest BX or similar would have helped them finish their tasks much faster. With their ingenuity I'd bet they could have made good use out of one or two and wouldn't have broke it doing what they needed done. Really it is all about being smart with the machines you have. You don't really need a machine to do it, it is just easier with than without. With proper "smarts" you can accomplish anything, tools make it easier, and using proper "smarts" both you and your tools should fair fine with anything you want to do.

Well, this may not be as big a project as others, but it was a big one for my BX2350 Kubota. I have a dry wash going through my property that had eroded dirt away from my chain link fence. I moved a bunch of LARGE rocks into place to help prevent it from getting worse. It took me about 3 days of moving the rocks and about a hour with the rear tiller trying to redirect the flow of water. Attached are the results. Little Orange did GREAT ! ! :2cents: A couple of the rocks looked like they weighed in about 1,000 to 1,200 pounds. BX could not pick them up, BUT did a great job of pulling and pushing them into place. We have had some heavy rain after I got it finished and the water follows the redirected path perfectly.
