Interesting plate, would be considered very un-PC in many states these days. Picture of the Tesla wasn't clear enough to see any detail.
Is this one of those extra cost "commemorative" plates like many states offer where a portion of the registration fee goes to some (usually nonprofit) organization?
Yes, here in KY we have one of the lowest utility rates in the nation, if not THE lowest. And it's because 97% of our energy has traditionally come from coal. The mindset among most here is that we'd rather be able to afford to live than sell our souls to the tree-huggers. The Friends of Coal plate was started by that organization to raise funds and help maintain the livelihoods of the coal workers as well as promote inexpensive and efficient energy for Kentuckians. In a large portion of the state, coal mines provide the highest wages of any jobs in the area. It makes a good living for people who otherwise wouldn't be able to have one.
