Guys, it's not big or a car but Scotty Kilmer says the new Ford Maverick is about the best FWD uni-body pickup truck with a 'square' bed built in Mexico these days. It has some nice features too, key start, eco-boost 250 hp, rotary shift control on the console, push-button parking brake, and for fuel economy when you stop for a light the engine stops until you press the gas pedal again. With optional towing package it'll haul 4k lbs. This one might not kill many folks.

I'd like to see one first, but am seriously considering the base model for primary use, so that I can save my 4x4 Colorado for when I want 4WD off road capacity. At 20k base model price, 30-40 mpg, the Maverick could be an economical vehicle for running around, and still have room for fuel cans, chain saws, etc without hauling them in the passenger compartment.

A little off topic but I saw this in my feed today and chuckled.....
Awesome! The owner of that Tesla get's it. The powerplants that make electricity to charge his car don't run off of Compressed Unicorn Farts. At least, most don't.

Interesting plate, would be considered very un-PC in many states these days. Picture of the Tesla wasn't clear enough to see any detail.
Is this one of those extra cost "commemorative" plates like many states offer where a portion of the registration fee goes to some (usually nonprofit) organization?

Maverick does have some things going for it, especially as I get older and don't need a "real" truck as much as I once did. I don't like that it's only available as a 4 door...other than my wife I almost never carry any passengers, and I'd really rather have more bed space. Maybe they'll offer an extended cab model at some point.

I like the plate, I actually use coal in my fireplace insert.

As far as the Maverick, my personal opinion is it's worthless.
I have no desire for an electric truck but I would like a hybrid to try.
However the way Ford has gone to get some of the options that I find quite desirerable I end up at the Lariat package,
then to get AWD you have to get the eco-boost gas engine.
And then to like the engine kill at stop lights or signs, no way.
My wifes Jeep Compass has that feature and we both find it quite irritating.
Also the color choices for the interior suck.

The more I see the title of this thread - the more I want to correct the premise.

"LITTLE" cars are killing Americans.

There is a button you can push to disable the auto engine shutdown on the F150s. You have to press it every time you start the truck though.

Wifes car has that feature. After a few days it becomes second nature to press that button after starting the car.

Ford transit connect work van I drive has that same feature.
