Disable the seat safety and use the CC lever to drive the machine forward.

I dont think the L2501 has the CC lever does it? If I recall the Grand Ls do, and I know the Ms do. On the M62 they have a handy "creeper" lever....so I can raise the downriggers, inch forward a bit, put them down, and keep digging. It is actually pretty fast. For digging in a straight line it is awesome.

Yes, the hydro economy L’s have cruise as an option.

Okay I get it....:confused3: So you can reposition down the line without swiveling around the seat. My L2501 has a cruise lever. If I pull it, the forward pedal depresses without my foot and the tractor will move forward.

Many TLB's have an 18 foot reach.

I’ve got a full size backhoe and it would eat the 1 ton mini for lunch or carry 3 of them in the front bucket, but a BH-77 and a 310 is a substantial difference.

18 feet? That would be on a pretty big tractor I would think. The BH reach on my tractor is only 10'.

How do you use cruise control work with the backhoe?
Move REALLY slowly and dig REALLY fast?

Disable the seat safety and use the CC lever to drive the machine forward.
And raise the back wheels off the ground with the BH outriggers when you want it to not move?

I've seen a video of a guy with a JD 1025 who moved the machine forward by raising the outriggers and pushing with the backhoe. I assume the tractor was in neutral. Don't know if that is a recommended method though. Might be a lot of stress on the BH.

I suppose you could take the lift the wheels off the ground approach but the cc lever was reachable from the backhoe seat. Driving forward was a lot faster then pushing with the backhoe.

I'll need to find out how the CC works on my tractor. Haven't done anything yet that would benefit from CC. I have ASSUMED that it works the same as on my little garden tractor - get to speed and while still pushing on the go pedal press the CC lever. Not something that would be beneficial in a trench digging operation.

The one on my L3240 was a lever in the same place and opposite side as the 3 point hitch control lever. You didn’t have to touch the lever and just moved the lever to move forward. It didn’t have reverse which was a slight drawback.

I checked the manual, my Mahindra CC works the same as the one on the garden tractor.

My L3240 was an electric controlled HST where economy series tractors are usually linkage. I doubt they work the same way.

If you are just digging 1 reasonably small hole & not needing to reposition the machine, both will dig based on the machine weight. The excavator is going to excel at digging & moving. But you are only digging 1 hole, so not really digging & moving simultaneously. A tired machine will literally drive circles around an excavator. The excavator is going to be a rough ride topping out at 2mph while the tractor is cruising at 15mph or so.

Presumably you wont be unloading the excavator right at the digging spot. So it will be a slow treck off the trailer to the dig spot(s). Then you sit In 1 spot digging a small hole. Possibly repeating that after moving a fair ways. The excavator will dig better, but I'm guessing you'll spend more time driving with either machine than digging. In which case the tired machine wins.

Not to mention the extra maintnance of another machine.

I have a kubota kh-41 about 3,300lb machine. I wouldnt want to go much smaller. Mine is about 38in wide and very un stable on the side and travel is slow. With that being said theres nothing more nimble than a small excavator. Being able to go backwards, forwards and even swing 360* in any direction while goiing backward/foreward saves a ton of time. My boom pivots so i can dig right up against a building.

I have no problems digging holes with this machine. I also have an auger attachment for it.
