Backhoe BH top link or not?

/ BH top link or not? #2
I have a CK30hst with KB2375 bh. I have never connected the top link. I let all the bh pressure be put into the sub frame as I believe it was designed to handle. If you're digging some hard stuff, the bh will flex a little putting the force on the rear bh mount on the tractor where the subframe is pinned to. I don't think the tractor's top link mount can handle this kind of force. My bh manual also never advised to connect the top link.

CK30 hst Kioti BK2475 bh with sub frame.
Am i to use the top link or not and why?

Harleyboy, i have a wallenstein gx 620 hoe. An i use the top link. Infact they say in the manual to do so. You do not have to put it on real tight.

So if I understand, you're saying that attaching the back of the backhoe to the tractor top link is recommended to become a 3PH for the BH to the tractor's chassis/frame? Correct?
Thanks!

I too have asked myself the same question:confused: Looked up both in the KB2475 manual, and CK30 owner's manual and nothing mentions to attache the top link to the BH.

I have a Woods BH70 and my dealer said never, never, never use the top link, it can cause damage. Not sure how, that's just what he said. If you don't need it to install the bh, I wouldn't use it.

Nothing in the hoe manual, hunh?

The 2475 subframe depends on dual beams of about 4 inch height each,
positioned quite low. These will flex noticably when under loads from the
hoe. Flex is bad. Using the toplink will make a much stiffer attachment,
but the tension and compression forces on the toplink will be far far less
than on a 3-point hitch attachment where the lower support is free to
pivot.

Take a look at the better types of subframes out there. They flex much
less than the Kioti style subframe if you don't connect the toplink. The
Woods old style subframes are very similar to the Kioti style, and Woods
requires the toplink. The newer Woods style (4-point subframes) do not
require a toplink, and are a much improved design.

I agree with you dfkrug, I'm not saying it's right or wrong either. But the first pictures i ever seen on the net, of a ck20. Two pictures i have, got the top links on. So somebody thinks they should go on too. I just don't think it would
hurt any thing. I have a wallenstein sub frame also, an they say put the top link on. I guess that why were on a tractor net, we all have a opinion.

The Kioti dealer that sold me my backhoe said to not use the top link. I haven't used it and everything seems OK so far. Fred

Thanks for your thoughts
I was thinking the top link would just tighten things up?
maybe too much ?
I think the sub frame (Kioti) should pin at the front?
My Cousin has a CK 20 with a woods sub frame and a Wallenstein hoe and his is pinned at the front but he doesn't use the top link.

Seems to me like its time for Kioti to take responsibility for their design of their Backhoe and settle this question once and for all, Top link connected or top link not connected? Fred

Is anyone aware of any instance where the top link was used and caused damage? I keep hearing that it can cause major damage, but no examples.

If it wasn't supposed to be used why did they bother to put the tabs on the b'hoe frame for a top-link?

I think many tractor backhoes are setup to be sold as 3 point backhoes (my Rhino was that way and the subframe was an option, so it also has the tabs)

DK35vince you are right for sure Kioti BH are built to mount as 3ph or subframe that is why the top link is there.

It occurs to me that if using the BH as a 3PH setup than one would use the top link and when using as a sub-frame install then one would not need the top link.

Case closed!:D

CM out.

For the record,

KIOTI Tractors position is to NOT use the toplink on the Backhoe. The tabs are there, but KIOTI intends for the subframe to distribute the backhoe forces to the tractor without the top-link. We raised the question several years ago when the new 24XX series backhoes came out, and received a written response from KIOTI Techinical Department to not use the toplink.

Hope this helps
