My new computer on Office 365 insists that I use OneDrive cloud (part of the yearly Office payment). It auto copied my files when I put them onto the C: docs and pictures.

However, I recently had to add to our church picture directory and could not find either the pub nor the pdf files for it. Luckily, I have them on a flash drive backup.

Then I found that NONE of the master gardener newsletter folders had pub nor pdf files in them. Again, I copied them from the flash drive, skipping files I already had there (all but the pub and pdf files).

Asked our master gardener computer consultant about it because I found NOTHING online about this. She had not heard of it.

I've removed the hard drive from the old Dell and ordered an adaptor to use it as another hard drive, just in case I find something else that I need off it. The adaptor will plug into it and then into a USB port.

Office 365 includes 1TB of onedrive space and as long as you pay your subscription it will remain accessible. If there is an issue with subscription they will notify you and give you time to copy your files from it before disabling access. Then it will sit for a little while longer before deleting permanently.

Onedrive only copies or moves data to Onedrive from folders you enable and syncs them whenever your logged in.

Its still there just need to log back in with you email account you set it up with.

That's part the issue I have with updates. It seems most of the "enhancements" are actually ways they've devised to get better metrics on your usage, so ads can be better targeted; trick you into using more cloud memory so they can charge you for it; or defaulting to one of their proprietary search platforms (Bing).

Huge problem for me with MS OneDrive is access. When it takes the files from your hard drive, unless you have internet you are stuck without your files... Happened to me.

Is there a way to shut off one drive so the default is not to use it (it would be even better if it doesn't even present the option to save on onedrive). I want my data on my computer. I don't want to have to remember to change it from one drive to my computer when saving.

I had to stop OneDrive today , not sure how it got activated, as I didn’t tell it to. I don’t use cloud.

I loath Microsoft. The yearly subscription is ransomware in my opinion.

I tried getting Office 2016 single pay. That's what caused some of the issues. Ended up having to RESET my computer. Lost the files I'd put on the C drive, but they seemed to still be on OneDrive but missing the pub and pdf files. Totally does not makes sense.

Think in the future I'll use my flash drive and just backup to OneDrive. Nothing on C drive.

Took my old hard drive (with a bunch of bad sectors but still works) out of the old Dell. Ordered an adaptor to be able to plug it into USB. Then in case I'm missing something, I can maybe find it there. I've also a flash drive backup that I do every 3 months in the basement of my carriage house.

That's...not how it works. Any file (in a OneDrive synced folder) it backs up from the computer you're working on, it keeps a copy on your computer as well. That's the whole point - cloud sync with local file speeds.

My big beef with OneDrive at the moment is actually with my IT dept. They turned off letting me adjust the upload rate, but on my crappy rural AT&T internet it kills my connection whenever it uploads because it's saturating the line.
