When I performed the 50 hour oil and filter change on my tractor last Spring the first realization was that the factory put the filter on really tight. My second realization was that there is no working room around the filter. There was no way to use the usual filter wrench with a handle for leverage, and the end cap style only spun.
I ordered a three jaw filter wrench removed the old filter, and installed the new.
I was using the tractor a couple of days ago, and noticed a steady drip from the filter, removed and inspected for damaged gasket. No damage, but it is a small o-ring instead of the flat gasket I am accustomed to in automotive applications. I tightened it as tight as I dared, and still saw a slight drip.
Seeking to improve the situation, and noting the 1 inch hex on the end of K & N filters, I looked up a cross reference. Mahindra E520532091 = K & N HP 1004. The K & N also has a flat gasket! Swapped to the K & N and now have no leak.
K & N was $15 on Amazon, same price at O'Reilly...ordered 10:30 this morning and picked it up at 1:30 this afternoon.
K & N is my go to filter now.
