Best Work Boots

Well I feel bad. My favorite work boots are a pair of $20 rubber boots from Academy. I wear em all the time on my place. Dirt and mud washes right off. Of course I leave em outside so don't really wash them very much. Comfortable? Not really. Maybe I'd have less foot aches with better boots... Yall might be onto something.

I like my 9" herman survivor logging boots. I have also noticed that over the years the leather on new boots has gotten thinner and the soles are not as rugged as they used to be. It may be a way of companies keeping cost down but the boots just are not the same as ones sold 20 years ago when I bought my first pair. I just got a pair of sketcher work shoes (steel toe) and the are very comfortable and light. look like high top sneakers.

Thanks Rat. Surprised I only missed one /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Well now I'm up to a baker's dozen from an even dozen. More homework /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. I'll probably downselect based on what's available locally to try on my feet.

Mine are a high top logger type boot(steel toe),$48 bucks(Wal Mart).
I had been throwing my money away on Iron Age safety shoes about $120 a pair,very hard to break in a new pair,got my Hermans, wear just as good and a lot more comfortable.
I seen some John Deere work boots at Walmart.....suprised me they were not green and yellow.I seen some Cat Brand...they were not yellow....go figure... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

how about the Georgia Boots? Just ordered a pair last week and we'll see. Hard to find size 14 at Wally World or just about any retail store.

Check out www.drysdales.com I bought a pair of Tony Lama workboots that are the most comfortable I have ever worn ($79.95 on sale). I used to wear Redwings all the time but the last two pair I had didn't fit right. Drysdales also sells Justins and their prices are great.

I'm glad to see my second choice mentioned, Herman Survivors. The only problem I had with them was the ugly. Even from up where the eyes are located it's obvious, ugly. But they wore well and were comfortable right out of the box.

For the last fifteen years I've worn Hightest with the metatarsel (sp) guard. I haven't lost a foot stomping contest since. I think the model I wear is something 77. They wear well, are under two hundred dollars, and are comfortable right out of the box. Having sore feet working in a new pair of boots ranks right up there with a root canal for me.

I'm hard on boots, some years I'll go through three pair, most years two. Some of the more popular brands mentioned here cost as much as the Hightest and wore out in half the time.

If you're around equipment I strongly suggest considering the metatarsel (sp) protection in addition to the steel toe. It gives the area above the steel toe some protection. I don't know about anyone else, but darn those bones across the arch are sensitive, must be the nineties part of my personality. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
