Hello everyone--

I have lurked here for a bit and have found some great info on the tractors we have on our small Pa. farm. I am hoping I can get a few suggestions on this challenge....

We have recently purchases a John Deere 2030 to replace an old warhorse and monster Farmall 966. It has a 146 loader on it, and the tractor has HI/Lo and IPTO. We had noticed some jerkiness in the 3pt hitch, and when we got it home we found the hydraulic fluid low. With just under 4000hrs on it we decided it could use a fluid change and filter. When we dropped the fluid it was very obvious it had water contamination (milky white). I have seen this before as my career was mostly focused on mobile hyd. equipment (Forklifts, Bucket trucks, Backhoes, etc).

My challenge is this: we changed fluid and filter, cleaned suction screen and she runs great now, but still allot of milky contamination! Does anyone here have any suggestions on flushing the system without splitting it into pieces and hand washing it out? I thought about dropping a few gallons out and putting the same amount of Diesel fuel back in and run it through the paces and changing the fluid and filter it again. I know I won't be able to get it ALL out, but figure if I do this and maybe change it out again next Winter I should be pretty good.

We are a small time operation and probably will get maybe 2-300hrs a year on this machine. TIA, LOOSENUTS

Use some cheap Hyd oil and new filters, flush a few times. If possible use a low micron filter to "clean up' the system.
You can drain hoses, lines, cylinders, valves, even disassembling some items if it is bad.
Find out how water is getting in and correct.

Tractor Supply sells hyd oil SO cheap,,, compared to ANY JD part,,,
I would change the oil weekly for at least three oil changes.

Do not consider waiting a year,, or,, you will be buying parts,
and we will have to walk you through installation of those expensive parts.

Make certain none of the end pieces are missing off the end of the transmission oil filter. If the filter is loose it will twirl and rubber pieces will jam the relief and divert valves inside the transmission.
Are the loader hydraulics connected to the rear scv or direct to the high pressure line and return to a ported filter cover?
The shifter boots deteriorate with age and will allow moisture to enter.

Thanks for the come-backs! I did figure on a way to empty the loader cyl's by taking off one side of cyl and running junk fluid to a bucket, reconnect and do the other sides.

Buickanddeere the loader is direct and not off scvs. We did have the filter relief get jammed with some fiberous (SP?) material but since then system working fine. I did buy the JD service manual, ITmanual and it came with operators manual. Just got the parts manual in the mail yesterday cuz I found out the filter doesn't come with a new o-ring. Will get the new filters and at least 1 oring. CADplans, your right, oil IS cheap compaired to splitting the tractor and replacing/ repairing internal organs.

Again, thanks for the responses!
