I have what appears to be a gopher run, down hill from the house. After a heavy rain, dirt is wash up around the hole. I am concerned it might be coming from under, or near the house.

I am thinking, I might try to inject smoke into the hole & watch for where it come out, but am wondering what is the best way to do this?

Or is there a better way?

Get ya a road flare, light it, and stuff the lit end in the hole. You may see where other access to the tunnel comes out, and it will likely do in the gopher. And, it's cheap...

Put a vacum truck on the hole or else just use a waterhoze to fill everything up with water.

use a good sling shot (wrist rocket) and shoot about 4 lit smoke bombs up in there, if you don't see the end then at least you will stop the digging varmit form geetting any closer to the house! I got one in the barn to get rid of yet this is one good way road flare probably would work too, keep shovel handy and fill in the access hole so smoke will have little elae where to go to.

one other way to get dir if them pesky ones which see ya comming is a long copper tube & a canester of propane. no match needed the propane gas is deadly and will sink to lowest point & displace the O2. again cover one hole with the copper tube down in there & let it run a while and then cover the other hole. it is not locating gas but will terminate the offending critters...

Thanks Guys, for the suggestions.

I was thinking, maybe hook up the exhaust of my old 59 ford dump truck to the hole, then put a little carburetor cleaner in the carb & let it run till I see smoke coming out up the hill. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Where do I get road flares? Auto parts store maybe?

If the hole us under or near the house I would advise against the use of propane. The gas is heavy and will pocket underground and follow the tunnel right to the house if it's that close.

It's also very explosive. Ever see someone try to light a BBQ grill with the lid down? You won't forget to raise it the second time around. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Most good hardware stores sell inexpensive smoke bombs to get rid of the pests without doing the house or the pole barn in at the same time.

A parts store would have road flares. Or, a truck stop(they have bigger ones).

Did I ever tell ya about the time in my younger (foolish) days I tried to light a burn barrel full of pine trimmings with a Bernzomatic ? Torch kept going out as I tipped it up and tried to stick it down in the barrel. I would try to relight it immediately. The last time I couldn't get the lighter to fire ... and the torch was still open and running.

I finally got the lighter to fire and ignited the propane - the resuting mushroon cloud took off most of my hair and eyebrows ....... it was at that point I started wearing a flattop. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
