......I am finally in place to build my dream barn/shop.....I had a Nucor metal building rep draw up a monitor barn with lots of windows.......40 x 50 with 20 foot canopies on the two sides.....The building kit and erection estimate was for about $95K......This is without permits, cement, electrical.......Kinda like all the money in the world.......
.......I had a cement contractor out who said a pole barn would give me the most bang for my buck...He was going to get me the contact info for his buddy, a pole barn master builder......Well, he never got back to me and that's OK....That's how contractors are sometimes....Well, most of the time......
.......When I search for pole barn builders, very little comes up.......
.......I know some of you must have already gone through this and I can use any barn advice I can get......This is a perfect time to get advice, before I do something dumb!...I am in the Sacramento foothills........Have a great one!...Dave!...

I would be concerned about poles in the ground and their life expectancy. I recent built a 40x50 metal barn that came in at about $75K with concrete, 2 large roll up doors, 4 windows, 6 skylights, and insulation. I did the site work, excavation, plumbing and electric. I am very pleased.

Sound expensive to me. Typical cost for high quality pole barn in our area is about 25 sgft. It includes concrete slab, R20 insulation, garage door, two man doors, two double; pane windows, all drains and plumbing in the floor and fully lined interior by metal.

We just have built second barn by Morton Buildings. 36X75X12 for 67K. We paid about 1600 for site preparation and two truck loads of crushed limestone and 2500 for conection to water and the septic.

Morton barns are made of the best quality materials but also command higher price so 25/sqft is rather top price.

$25.00/sq.ft. sounds about right. I have a 24X32 steel shop, insulated, concrete floor, 16ft overhead door, 32" entry door, 4 windows and wiring. Turn key; about $17,000, including survey, dirt work and city permit requirements.

Keep in mind I am in California where everything is silly expensive. Also, my barn is on a slope where I needed fill- at grade at front sloping to 3' at rear. Walls are 16' making possible a loft, which I have just added (12x25'). The 16' wall height coupled with the 14' high roll up necessitated 2 additional huge footings for structural strength which added to the concrete cost. Being located in the boonies, local concrete runs $65/yrd!

Get a few more estimates. You should be paying $25-30 per sq ft.

As I read it he is ending up with a 50x80 foot building, so $100,000 would be about right.

With more windows, and a less than 'most effiecnt but pretty' design, that's probably not a bad price.

A pole building would be less money, but they are harder to do any sort of finishing with the walls. Depends on what you want to do with the building, just a shell, or finish it off with walls and such inside.
