Has anyone found a good synthetic grease for construction equipment? I've tried mobile, valvoline and amsoil but they're a little pricey. Currently I am using Gulf Super Duty Synthetic EP #2 costing about $4 a tube. Besides lubrication characteristics, I look for extreme pressure and low temperature attributes.

I have been using the red color Chevron Ultra Duty EP #2 grease. I bought a pail, (35 lbs), for $73. That was a year ago.

The best grease I have found is made by Texas Refinery Corporation. There are a couple of others that come close to matching it but I believe it is a little better than them. It isn't cheap per tube, around C$7 - C$8, but I know of one wheel loader operator who went from having to grease his pins every two hours to once every 8 to 10 hours when he switched to TRC grease. TRC makes excellent lubes of all sorts btw. Just offering it up as another good product... I'm not connected in any way with TRC except as a very satisfied customer.

I sold TRC products 25 years ago. Was the loader operator you mentioned using another synthetic product prior to switching to TRC. What type of TRC grease are your using?

jmfox, I don't know what brand of grease the loader operator was using, nor whether it was a synthetic or not. From what I could gather, it was a cheaper grease in both price and quality. It serves as a good example of how you are sometimes better to buy quality rather than quantity. The grease I use is just TRC's general purpose 880 CROWN & CHASSI (NLGI #2 Grade).

Jmf,

Here's the specs on the Chevron #2 EP grease I have been using over the years. It's good stuff and reasonable. I ran out of it, and I bought a bucket just recently and am not sure what a case of tubes would cost. If you use a fair amount of grease on your equipment, it would be cheaper to get it in the bucket and pump fill your grease guns instead of buying the tubes. Whatever grease you get, compare specs with cost.
And, I learned about filling my own from bulk from the guys here on TBN.
