Well in another old thread:

The best diesel pickup would be a late model ford with a 24 valve cummins turbo and an allison transmission. Now all we need to do is get all the maker together to build it.

It's actually a pretty common swap. Pretty sure the guys at Bean's Diesel have been at it for years.

Why change the tranny? Its a know fact that the Torque shift is a solid piece that will handle way more power than the Ally 1000.
