Tiller Best Rotary Tiller for 1950 Ford 8N Tractor

I'm shopping for a rotary tiller for my 1950 Ford 8N tractor.

What size will work best?
What would be the best one for my tractor?

I would think you could run 5' just fine, but how wide is your rear tire setup? You do want to cover your tracks. Ideally you have a little offset to it.

you'd think VERY wrong.

8n are geared tall. rotary tillers are not good fits with an N unless they have the very rare howard rotovator transmission installed. that or an everette trencher tranny.

N are good plow and disc machines.. very poor tillers.

I would not advise a tiller on anything under a 850.. ie.. 48 hp and 5spd. and really.. to get good performance.. a 10spd sos or a 6spd twin stick or 8 spd twin stick.

If the soil is prepped like I do, turned and disced in advance, that tractor should be able to do the fine prep with a 5' tiller. I had not thought of sod busting with it since I don't do that. Soundguy makes very good points in that regard. Tillers are not sod busting machines to me. I turn my veggie fields every year with a plow, disc them and fine prep with a tiller. Works for me.

The soil has been worked and is pretty loose. I use a walk behind tiller now. I also use a middle buster, and discs.
I'd like to be able to make a wider path than 18 inches.
The ground is very workable.
